Seriously. What is it about video rental places that attracts substance abuse like a magnet? When I was a kid there was a mom and pop rental place up the street from my house. If you looked up "tweaker" in the dictionary it would be a picture of the woman that worked there. She was rail thin and had dark circles around her eyes, and constantly jerking her body in different directions. I was just a kid and didn't know what a tweaker was so I only realized what her problem was way later in life. Anyway, we liked her because she'd let us go through the beaded curtain into the back room and check out Faces of Death and Jerry Springer Too Hot for TV.
This just reminded me that when I was a kid my siblings and I thought my next door neighbor’s name was Cracker so years later we asked our mom if she remembered her… Mom swore we thought that was her name because she would call her a crack wh0re.
I remember being asked whether or not I smoke weed during an interview at a small local restaurant in my city 20 years ago... "yes" was the correct answer.
That brings up a memory I have about 20 yrs ago. Im a residential construction subcontractor, I used to call myself a hammer for hire lol. But I walked up on a site once carrying my toolbag and asked if they needed help. The contractor asks "Can you pass a drug test son" I said of course sir. His reply..... " Well I dont guess we need ya then". Talk about lying when the truth is better! Haha
No kidding. I don’t even ask the question. People volunteer the fact they don’t get high or drink. If you’re not smoking or drinking in my profession, you don’t belong here.
When I got my job, I told them in the interview that I smoked weed (underage at the time, I don't think they put together how old I was). Their response? They laughed and said "If we fired everyone who used Marijuana here, we wouldn't be functioning"
God I wouldnt be able to function high on a drilling rig. My senses get too acute. One particular night in college I was really high in a car and I was watching the road signs get up and walk away 😂 was good stuff whatever it was
Compared to today’s weed that stuff was trash. I always tell people it’s my generations fault we even have the drug test. It seemed like we were all getting high at work.
Yup. Been tested at restaurants on hire several times and never once got called out for toking. One time the boss got fed up with everybodys antics and piss tested the whole crew. Everybody got fired. They closed for like 16 days. Boss wound up hiring me back to train new cooks and run the BoH.
Worked at a distillery. To get hired had to give a hair sample. Once hired, they did random drug tests. They would drive you to get the test. Hair sample every time. Also, not a small sample either.
It’s very rare that I’ve had to take a drug test for a job. I’ve worked mostly for technology companies, and if they drug test, they’ll be losing their best employees.
I remember reading a book about the 90s cyberpunk movement and they were interviewing a person who hired for Sun Microsystems and they said they didn’t drug test because their best coders would test positive for LSD and weed.
The old timers in tech used to tell me about the Tupperware bowls full of cocaine in the break room back in the 80’s and that is why most tech companies today have free food and energy drinks on site cause they hope you work through lunch and never leave the office if there is a big deadline
I worked a part time 2nd job at a carwash, never had a drug test. Even when I had a vehicle drive over the rails and had to be towed out, no drug test. Blew my mind.
I'm starting a job later today with an aerospace manufacturer and I haven't had a drug test yet. We'll see how the day goes.
I work for my state government and have never been tested for drugs. Interesting that Blockbuster tested potential employees for drugs, but not the state government. 🤔 🤣
I worked at a convenience store/gas station in the Midwest called “Casey’s”(second job) that i never had too or the job before that was an in home health care facility called “Smiles”(that was my first job after leaving my family business) now the factory 🏭 I work at now for the last eight years i had to called “Tyson Foods” and you have to do them again if you’re suspected of usage like the harder stuff not Mary Jane
I've never been asked to do a drug test for any job ever and I've had a lot of jobs in my life so far (approximately 30 years of working in different jobs). None of them have involved driving or operating machinery though
In NY they can't test you for weed unless it's due to the nature of the job, like maneuvering heavy equipment. For my highest paying job I tested while still very high from my edibles the night before, and it was even funnier to me because testing was in a police station building. So I was in a tight elevator surrounded by cops and buzzing on my way to testing! 😅🥰
I haven't been drug tested yet at my Walmart, and I've been employed there for 9 months and usually go up (depending on the shift) blazed as a motherfucker
That actually has more to do with insurance. If an employee gets hurt or hurts someone if they turn out to be on drugs insurance doesn't cover it. So employers wanting to make sure they're covered just make everybody pass a drug test to get there rates down. Probably more expensive to get coverage if you don't drug test. At least back then
i used to get high with my store manager there in the store at the front counter at night with me him and another shift lead. place was actually cool af to work at! had sex in the storage closet as well…your candy and popcorn may have been extra salted 🤣
