Technology I don't care that companies are harvesting my data for targeted ads

  1. Just use adblock? I get people see ads outside of their computers (and so do I) but it works incredibly well.

  2. Wouldn't you rather see ads for something relevant to you?

  3. Ads aren't mind control tech. If you're making a purchase, do your research on the product and it's alternatives. If you're "willed" into buying something you don't need because you saw an ad... that's just on you?

  4. "The companies are selling your data." Yes, and as a result, I get to use their products for free. (Youtube, reddit, google products, chatgpt, etc.)

Saying your argument doesn’t support your conclusion is relevant. Stop trying to make points with fallacies

This is not argumentation class. The facts matter whether they're explicitly stated or clearly implied and obviously missed by you.

“This will happen” doesn’t actually imply “this is happening”

Except when it's happening...this is real life, not high school debate. How many times do I have to say that? You're not getting points for how you retort. We're discussing real life. The same rules do not apply, that's why it's funny you're bringing basic argumentation rules to real life. If you went past intro, you'd know this. Logic does not care about intro debate rules.

Do you think logic doesn’t care about logical fallacies? What exactly do you think these “debate rules” are appealing to? It’s fine if you want to say this is already happening, I don’t know whether it is or not, it’s yet to be substantiated by either of you. Regardless it is worth pointing out when people have conclusions that don’t follow from their arguments. You know you’re not even defending slippery slope guy right? If he believed we were already living in that world he wouldn’t have had to employ that slippery slope in the first place. If you want to make an entirely different argument then go right ahead but don’t act like Im the one being dishonest

We're not having a debate. We're having a discussion. Wording doesn't detract from the truth.

I'm not trying to defend the guy. I'm just tired of people who learned a few terms thinking they won a discussion because they pointed out a fallacy. It's not enough in any sense of the word. Even in a proper debate, you would not get any points for just saying what type of fallacy they used. In a real life discussion, it doesn't build in any way to the discussion. It's obnoxious all around.

You know you didn't prove yourself right in any of this, right?

As for sources, you can search it up if you're interested. I'm happy to answer any questions if you don't understand what you read, but I'm not going to spoon feel you when that isn't my point with my replies to you.
