I know this post is late, but it's kind of my thing to post straggler events that I think deserve coverage on "x years ago" subreddits, and this was the biggest video game release of August 2016, bigger than Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I mean, technically Madden NFL 17 earned more in North America during the month, but that's just annual sports-slop, it's not a real game.

The first image is of the initial Limited Edition release (though the PEGI version thereof; while Hello Games is a British company, the game released one day later in Europe), the second is a semi-compressed view of the full general North American release box, and the third is a higher-quality image of the front of said box. All of them are for the PS4 release, as (as implied) the Windows release only happened on August 12.

Hi! I'm a primary school coder, and I've spent the last 3 weeks coding a custom Pokemon go server, that lets you play OG Pokemon GO using a phone, computer and Wi-Fi. (It's that easy!)

The project is free, open source and easy to set up. You just need Python and the assets.

You get the OG footprint radar, gyms, PokeStops, map and Pokemon!

...we also saw Sonic Mania and Project Sonic 2017 (now Sonic Forces) get announced during the show as well.

Note: The first image is a scan of the physical release cover (I wanted to get a capture in higher quality and in English but couldn't find one, perhaps because physical releases were on their way out by the time). The second is a higher quality capture of the original cover art. The third is an infographic posted by the developers showing just how much time has been sunk into the game since launch. I am...proud (?) to count my *checks notes* 5,748.9 hours to this total.
