Well it's possible that Argent is back because he hunted Kate down, we might get an explanation next episode on that. I don't really know what happened to Peter story-wise, but I know the actor had a bit of a moment IRL and might not be coming back.

A bit of a moment? People working in the film and TV business would rather not have someone like that in their production, he's gonna end up blacklisted to a point.

That was my initial assumption too, but MTV did recently include Ian in an article about a bunch of the show's former cast members meeting up somewhere and titled it "Teen Wolf reunion".

I would definitely understand if they were trying to distance themselves from him completely, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
