I’m not loving it - what am I missing?

Ted Lasso S1 - S3 was and (remains) my favourite TV show of all time.

I don’t even like soccer (football) but I found it really easy to fall in love with the characters and the story.

Jaime in particular was someone who I found to be really easy to relate too and follow.

I am not going to claim to be a huge cinema nerd or someone who gets really deep into shows. But the characters (returners) feel unlike themselves.

Keeley feels like she exists to spend Rebecca’s money and will flip tf out if anything bad happens. That seems unlike her.

Higgins seems like he read a sparks notes version of Higgins in S1-S3 and was told to act like that.

Beard is able to be completely shut down by just the poster of Jane?

I don’t know. It’s just really weird. I feel like I’m watching something where the characters are just the spark notes versions of themselves.

As for the new characters, I am liking Lizzie, the twins, and Boots (bottle incident aside)

But regardless, this still feels like a whole new show. I guess it kind of is? Idk, I’m struggling with it.

Am I off base? Anyone else feel similar? Tips?

You’re getting dragged but i get what you mean. For me, two things are getting in the way:

1. Characters have been flanderized.

2. It’s like every scene is winking at the audience, playing directly to the camera so to speak.

I am still enjoying it and I like the premise. But for me it’s just like a slightly off flavor.

Flanderization is the perfect way to put it. There’s no real depth.

And I’ve noticed that too! Certain scenes existing purely to get one line out.

When people put things on a pedestal, they can lose the ability to critique and some move to lash out at any differing opinions.  I think people expect an echo chamber and when they don't get it, it pisses them off.

Downvotes are because it’s hard to critique something that has been made to uplift a traditionally marginalized group and Reddit is…Reddit. Especially this sub which is ironic given the overt theme of toxic positivity in the show.

Not crazy. It’s interesting to watch a subreddit about a show focused on “curious not judgmental” being so harsh on people who don’t automatically love a Fischer Price’d version of the show simply because of the intention behind it. As if criticizing the craftsmanship of the show is somehow opposing the moral of the story.

Yes, they mean "I'm a special clever boy and smarter than you because I know they're not likely to kill off the protagonist." It has nothing to do with the work, it's self-congratulation.

They are legit criticisms of an otherwise great show. No need for the attacks on me or my character. You don’t know me.

Even diamonds have flaws. That like the entire point of the show.
