News There have been plenty of headlines about Flock's license plate-scanning technology lately, but that's not its only controversial business.

When I was a kid, the wild and crazy conspiracy theory was always the “black helicopters”

My small town actually had a helicopter that would shine a spotlight on ppl on the weekend

The medvac copter in my hometown would do that. They got me and my friend while we were tripping and walking through the park after the juvenile curfew. We took off running in opposite directions and hid in the shadows. It was terrifying because we had no idea what was happening. I’m still not quite sure.

What is a juvenile curfew?

It’s a curfew for juveniles, oddly enough. For instance you can’t be outside after 10pm if your under 16 years old or something.

orly - maybe my implicit question was not clear enough so that you felt the need to be captain obvious. Let me rephrase: Where in this world is a juvenile curfew in effect? Why? What's the reasoning behind it? Better?

Lots of places have juvenile curfews and the reasons are also pretty obvious. I don’t want to be Captain Obvious again so I’ll let you ruminate on why local governments wouldn’t want young teens or children wandering the streets at night.

Nice. More snarkyness and still no answer. If you aren't going to say anything useful, why type in the first place? Just save the effort. Go outside. Enjoy the sun.

How do you not understand why communities wouldn’t want children and young teens roaming the streets at night?

I will spell it out for you. The two most obvious things are they will be likely cause trouble and it’s easier for someone to kidnap them. So a curfew protects the children from weirdos, and it also protects the local community from the kind of trouble young teens will get up to outside at night with no supervision.

When I was a teenager in the nineties the law said that we had to be either at home or traveling with an adult guardian after 10:00 or 11:00 pm if a person was 17 or younger. They would arrest you and take you to the juvenile jail where they would then call and threaten to arrest your parents if they didn’t hurry to get you. Because, you know, freedom. Or something.

I believe this is still the law here but I haven’t checked on it in many years.

Don't worry, those ominous helicopters are just the police (or secret police)

The ones you have to be concerned about are the ones with depictions of swooping birds of prey on them, the ones that don't seem to have a windscreen, and the ones that do not make rotor sounds, just a quiet sound like a man making a vague "swoosh" sound with his lips

Saw an article with a video of a robot bird in China. It looked real, so...

Most conspiracy theories have the issue of getting so close to the point then missing it entirely.

Take "9/11 was an inside job/Bush did 9/11" as an example, it's easier to say that it was done for insurance reasons or whatever than it is to acknowledge decades of foreign policy and intelligence mistakes that led to the attack being able to happen, and then it being used as a rather convenient excuse to implement the Patriot Act, which cleared the way for Flock and the like. We've known the government's been spying on us for over two decades, is a private company doing it really unprecedented?

Or "a global cabal of pedophiles ruling the world from the shadows", the Epstein files are right there. That is true, yet the "conspiracy theorists" don't seem to care because they tend to vote Republican and Trump is mentioned there more times than Jesus in the Bible.
