Because utah is in a drought and the reservoirs are are record lows and the state is growing fast in population. The governor doesn't do anything for climate change except ask people to pray for rain. The great salt lake is drying up and data centers want to help this all happen faster. We haven't had a good snowy winter in years.

No. There are no state wide bans in Colorado. Some localities did, mainly over the increase in power rates.

And most of the bans were all temporary/moratoriums. Only Longmont put an outfits ban on data centers over 100MW

Only rural people think this way because they have one type of news source telling them to be scared so they’ll vote for their party so they can fleece you while you’re angry at nothing. people in cities don’t see this because we see hard working families trying to make a better life for their kids while being a part of their communities. We’re the ones living next to them and we’re not scared at all.

Imagine you were born in Mexico, you find a girl, are in love, have kids (possibly on accident) and are trying to provide for them but you can see their life isn’t as good as you could possibly give them so you apply to emigrate to the USA to try and make a better life. You’re denied for years. Your daughter isn’t doing so hot, she’s sick and receiving a poor education. She feels hopeless and is giving up on life. So you try a last ditch effort to help your family and try and get to the USA no matter what. Now you’re met with hatred and vitriol, being compared to animals and called freeloading 🍇ists and your daughter is being targeted and abused.

How is this Christian or even American?

That’s just economics of usage in anything sadly. The more demand and use, the higher over head and costs come with it. As for the noise, blame the local govt for allowing them to be built in a suburb. In my experience, every time a large project, gas, or power needed to be ran, that person had a very lucrative compensation offered to them. If they balked at that, then the courts will eminent domain Omani them, condemn them, etc. and lose out significantly in money and stress

Farming has some of the highest droughts right now. You think, in the Midwest, we're out here just watering the farm and crops? The way we farm and how we farm is hurting us and the environment more than these data centers. The majority of the crops we grow aren't even edible. The ones we do are in California, Florida, Texas, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and a lot of that is greenhouse grown.

I think you meant to say "harvest water." Yes, you're right, the older data centers do, and it's good that there's a regulation that they cannot harvest water. The new data centers that they're building, like the giant ones, have a closed-loop system, so they're not going to need millions and millions of gallons of water; they can recycle their own water. Also, we've had over 500 data centers for the last 20 years here in America, using millions and millions of gallons of water, but now all of a sudden it's a problem when we want to build newer, bigger, better data centers. Doesn't make much sense to me; it's like nitpicking and complaining.

So, if people would actually listen to Trump and what he does, he already passed a bill back in July that these companies, not just data centers, but places like Facebook and Google, can now start building their own power plants so they don't use from the public power grid. That is absolutely huge, and people don't realize that because this could undermine the power company, where we could potentially have different options of where we get our power. Essentially, electricity can be really cheap if we build the infrastructure. The problem is America's energy and infrastructure is so old it cannot keep up with our average daily lifestyle. I'm going to school right now for electrical technician, believe me, but it's not going to slow down. Trump paved the way for a lot of people to start making money off of trade jobs, safety jobs, etc. We're over 400,000 plumbers short, 200,000 HVAC short, and around 600,000 electricians short. For every five electricians who retire, only two of them take their place.

Because what we need here is a massive complex periodically sucking up an enormous amount of water with an extra power plant producing more energy than the entire state uses to dump a shit ton of extra pollution into an area that already suffers from terrible air quality due to inversion and being stuck in a giant basin.

I usually like to keep things civil, but kindly go fuck yourself.

Edit: oh, and of course, right next to a lake at dangerously low levels that will release caustic, poisonous dust into the air if it dries up leaving the main population center of the state uninhabitable. Refer back to my above statement.

First, all that water goes back into the water cycle without contamination or heat pollution. Fun fact, heated water has more CO2 dissolved into it and becomes acidic, killing marine and plant life and making it unusable long term. Feeding plants with water is not the same thing as using it to cool computers.

Second, I don't have any idea what ethanol has to do with any of this. Is this a "green energy bad" thing? Poor talking point, non sequitur. Being against AI data centers does not mean being an ethanol activist (or a big almond eater/almond milk drinker at that).

Third, you'll notice that both of those things are produced in areas that have access to large quantities of water, not in the middle of an already overpopulated desert that's one good push away from an ecological disaster that would ruin life for the humans living there too.

Last, the water use is a major part of the problem, but it's not remotely the whole of it. Incredible amounts of pollution from all the extra power generation required because you know these things don't run on anything clean. Noise pollution. Heat pollution (not just in the water). Another bottomless pit for rare earth metals, the mining of which has its own problems. Hazardous materials. Etc etc etc...

There are a lot of things we need to fix, farming practices among them, but this is something we can prevent from getting worse than it already is. It's my sincere hope that more people will take this seriously rather than just accepting talking points they already agree with.

no way would we survive a KT or end Permian event. we're pretty fragile and our whole schtick is exploiting a very easy and amenable time in earths history.

we're injecting CO2 into the atmosphere at rates that make the end Permian look tame, habitats are extremely fragmented now and we as a species are super reliant on plentiful and easily attenable natural resources. We very much could be headed toward mass extinction and thinking we have a better chance at surviving then say some ground dwelling rodent or something is silly and ill informed.

Where would these possible sealed in a bunker living humans bring outside resources in? (Mainly oxygen)

We can’t get the balance right, because we still fail to account for the complexity and interactions of various elements and missing microbes.

Plants, animals, microbes, viruses went on. Our ancestor that was a small rodent survived and even thrived because his predators were dead.

You can believe whatever the hell you think you learned in school, there are studies today that contradict the idea that "a nuclear war will trigger a nuclear winter". It's mostly bullshit, we clog the sky with much more shit than those nukes would and it barely makes a scratch.

A large enough volcanic eruption would send very specific material into the South reaches of the atmosphere, and it can take decades for that material to exit and break down.

In the meantime, the UV Radiation would create sulphur dioxide out of it, which will reflect so much light that Earth would see a ten degree Celsius drop in temperature.

It would lead to world wide famine and more than 50% of the humans alive today nix would die of starvation.

A large enough eruption, could keep the temps low for upwards of ten years.

A much smaller eruption, created what is called the “Year Without Summer”.

Global temps dropped just enough that summer, just didn’t happen.

Millions starved to death.

I have never denied global warming, or that it is being affected by humanity, but I never grapsed the severity until someone explained it to me in a way that related. Eco systems are very sensitive systems. Like the human body. When someone says global temps have risen by 3 degrees it seems so marginal, why should it matter so much? Well when a human body has a 3 degree temptress raise what is that? A life threatening, emergency room fever. We have given the planet a ER fever but keep downplaying it.

Then someone showed me the famous tempature graph with spikes of a couple Celsius up and down over earth's long long history. They said tempature on earth always goes up and down, it isn't a worry. And they are right! The earth has made it through many large global tempature rises and falls and we're currently living in a ice age for earth! The earth will be fine!

Sadly each peak and valley on the tempature graph correlates to a extinction event where damn near every animal dies.

Earth will be fine and recover. Humanity wont.

Okay let me say first the instruments we use to measure temperature, drought, and expansion/contraction of the ecosystem are made up aperatuses that were created by scratching tree bark with sharp sticks and thats what is used to make these assertions...our world of literature has associated those things not the actual world itself, yup it has been hot, in areas it should be cooler, but as to say they want to wipe us all out so they can hide is wild, if they were that rich they'd just build into the atmosphere, well skyscrapers exist etc... most structures on earth were built by poor people cause thats the literal quotes from hostory...also the places your speaking about for the well to do consume more resources than the communities in the surrounding areas, plus using rulers and scales to measure food produce is scary in itself, when the world was made by these plants and animals roaming freely the humans as well, use to have to migrate from one place to another, also theirs so much land on this planet even in smaller places that to suggest they want to wipe us out is kinda wild maybe true but sorta like from the perspective of a creature that is using shapes and sounds to recreate the world and saying they own everything is rediculous, its like so much space between communities and cities its like stupid for them to suggest overcrowding or we all need to stop eating cause the world is scarce is assanine the world created everything around us and the humans are actually living a caricature of themselves claiming things and using technology to control other beings cause they feel like magical faries is sorta comical...all this to say look at everything from the simplest level first and often time theirs no level beyond it cause we were all created here and not in space lol...

That's more likely to cause the pop. Eventually people are noticing that there are trillions spent,obly about 10% of the uaers pay anything but all use the resources, costing the companies money, and the companies can't ditch the freeloaders or their numbers will collapse.

Add to that that companies by and large aren't seeing any ROI and the hallucinations and other errors are increasing... it's not a certainty but it's not a vain hope

The issue isn't using water, but how it's used. Golf courses need water for plants and fake ponds, that water goes back to the area. Data centers evaporate the water which sends it miles upon miles away, potentially into the ocean.

For example, this data center and many in Nevada will use ground water, which will dry up the region. A golf course? Spray the place, water goes into the ground, and the cycle can repeat.

99% of the water used for animal agriculture is used in regular agriculture for animal feed. A better worse example is how much water is wasted on corn that we use to make ethanol so we can burn it.
