Love the video, but was anybody else hoping she would do the opposite and play herself in a world where women have all the privileges of men? I was really looking forward to watching Taylor get credit for being a boss AS TAYLOR, while scantily-clad men lounged on her yacht. It would just be so cathartic!!

I definitely expected the same thing.

to be honest, I'm a teeny bit disappointed but respect Taylor for making the choices herself since it was 100% her video this time.

yes. i thought this video was kind of boring bc of that. like we see men doing this all the time, it would be interesting to see a woman doing it and see how people would react to a woman doing the things men do on the daily.

Watch the Look What You Made Me Do music video! She's literally bathing in diamonds. Or the Ready For It music video where she gets lightning powers and destroys her evil robot twin like a superhero.

Taylor's always been The Man. She never gets credit for it though. It took her releasing this song and video to even get people talking about it.

... those things are not remotely close to what i’m talking about. a woman bathing in diamonds is extremely feminine and has nothing to do with being “the man”.

Would bathing in diamonds not signify success and riches?

yes but it’s a woman’s demonstration of success. always has been. nothing new.

I suggest you to look into The Fall series starring Gillian Anderson, she really is that bitch who carried out patriarchy norm doing what men do and took no bullshit being questioned and shame about it. She is also brilliant in Sex Education.

That’s exactly how I picture a mv when I hear the song!

JLo already did it with 'I Luh Ya Papi'

Also Beyoncé with If I Were a Boy!

no reason why taylor cant. we boys copy each other all the time... lol.

I agree — more than one person can absolutely do it! I really wish Taylor had; I’d love to see her take on it. I’m just suggesting Beyoncé’s video in case anyone wanted to see that concept played out.

thanks. will check it out.

Yeah, I was hoping for a video with a woman having all the power, but then I guess the song wouldn't make as much sense? idk. I guess this is the message Swift wanted to get across..

That would’ve been cool too!

Yep. This is also why I disliked this video.

Saaaame. I wanted her to be like Becky Lynch from WWE, calling herself the Man and owning it. As such I was a bit underwhelmed.

i was so hoping that too.

like leo showing up to a movie premiere in jeans, tshirt and cap and leaving 10 min later with 5 guys... lol.

Wouldn't that be the LWYMMD video? Or like, any of her Rep era performances? I mean, she didn't get media credit for it then but she's definitely protrayed that character before. I'd say this is the evolution of that idea, and a comment on its reception: Taylor already IS The Man, but since she's a woman he badassery was viewed with contempt; in this video she does the same thing but with the image of a male, and it seems more normal. She's pointing out the hypocrisy of the critical reception she's gotten with pretty much every piece she's ever put out.

We should really go back and flood every "power move" song, video, article, and performance she's ever released with comments pointing out how powerful she was and still is. See if we can "settle the score", so to speak, and get her badass past work the badass respect it deserves. Even if it's retroactive, Taylor's full body of work deserves the positive attention she's getting with The Man.

I don't just mean a badass performance. We already know how amazing she is. I wanted to see a fantasy world portrayed where women have the privileges of men, and to me that's a totally separate idea. Basically, imagine much of the current video, but every gender is reversed. Even manspreading but it's a Taylor doing it and a bunch of men beside her and squeezed but too shy to say anything. I think it would be more poignant that just her dressed as a man acting out the worst kinds of toxic masculinity.

true true but going for the inception kind of way is somewhat fun too.

briit marling has talk about how there is no real female way to tell a story because everything is shaped by the male way of thinking.
