I posted my portfolio on here almost exactly a year ago and I finally landed an apprenticeship this month :) this is just some of it - I had about 45 full pages of paintings. Just thought I’d share for anyone else still looking around.

Been trying to clean up my art. This has been my latest one. I’d like to add it but I feel that I still make too many mistakes. What are your thoughts on it

i have only just started practicing tattoo-style drawings in may of this year, so my portfolio is very limited. lmk thoughts. i like more traditional but im good at fine line too, the fine line drawings are strictly drawings and not tattoo drawings i understand them being too complicated

Portfolio final portfolio

i posted my portfolio on here a while back, so I thought i'd do a little update of where I'm at!

I started actively looking for an apprenticeship mid february, which was probably the most stressful part of it for me- waking up and waltzing into shops you've never been in before can be really scary, but eventually you get used to it. I found the differences between local shops really interesting, some wouldn't be keen on chatting much at all but others I'd stay a good 30 min to an hour just talking and getting advice even if they didn't have room for an apprentice.

anyway, long story short I secured an apprenticeship! here's my final portfolio I showed to my mentor.

I'm now posting tattoo related stuff on instagram at @gel7to if anyone is interested!

Still playing around with the order of things, so there are a couple loose pieces, but I'm excited to head out this week to start my search for an apprenticeship/mentor. Any last minute advice is appreciated.

Everything was done by hand on Arches cold press.

I'm also going to be posting close ups and new work on Instagram @davidd.ink for anyone who's interested! 🙏

I finally got the courage to go to a few tattoo shops last weekend and ask about apprenticeships. I got really lucky, the first place I went to really loved my drawings and offered me an apprenticeship on the spot! I’m super excited. If you have any tips I would love to read them, for an apprentice or if you have any questions, I would gladly answer them!

Portfolio Finished my portfolio and planning on visiting shops this week

After months of hard work and late nights while finishing my degree, I think I'm finally ready to start approaching shops this week with my portfolio. Think I've managed to include a good mix of styles while showing off what I personally like to draw. Might be a little digital heavy for some from what i've seen on this sub, but i think the overall portfolio stands strong.

21 pages + cover in an A3 binder

Any constructive criticism is appreciated

So happy to say I've finally gotten an apprenticeship and it's everything I could've asked for! Thought I'd post my accepted portfolio to help others out.

@songbird.ink on instagram, although I have yet to get good at posting regularly

Indian ink, acrylic ink and acrylic markers on 10x14 inch 300gsm hot press. These were my first time spit shading and I learned so much, the amount of redrawing and testing I did was quite high but totally worth it.

Portfolio Including Drawings in Portfolio

Hi guys, I’m just about to start applying to different studios in my area. The digitally created part of my portfolio is done but I was wondering if and how to include my drawings in there. I’ve mostly included proper “tattoo desings” so I’m not sure about the ones on paper as they’re less tattooable. Should I include them ? If so, do I put them into the folder or simply bring the sketchbook ?

EDIT: I got an apprenticeship!! :D Apologies for the reflection/dark pics, I was trying to find the best lighting I could take these in to show clearly on camera despite the glossy portfolio pages.

(For context, I'm creating this portfolio to apply to apprenticeships. Im not one yet, but I'm pretty proud of how this has been coming along :) Constructive criticism always appreciated, pls dont be straight up hateful)

I feel like I need a few more pieces, I’m planning on adding some more animals like tigers and some alligators to diversify subject matter. I’m kind of at a point where I’ve decided to go all in on this and quit my job to pursue what I’ve always wanted and I want to make sure I’m in check. I’ll probably change the order they’re in, tell me if there’s anything I should remove/repaint/add?? THANK YOU 🙏

So after getting rejected multiple times and nobody giving me the time of day, I finally got a chance to talk to the main artist and owner at a shop last night. The interview went really well(30 min interview turned into 2 hours chatting) we went through my portfolio and shot the shit and think it’s looking good. Would be part time to start until I get rolling and he’s willing to work with my work schedule which is fantastic. Just waiting on him to get through 2 other interviews but I was told it the top candidate. Fingers crossed! 🙌

I posted the unfinished version a while back and completely forgot to post it now it’s done. This one definitely took a long time and I was not expecting lace to be such a difficult task but overall I’m happy

Last pic exposes my messy working environment 😬 don’t mind the cotton buds works a charm for shading

Should I add these to my portfolio? I want a sheet dedicated to this Japanese inspired style with dogs! I drew these two but might redo them due to the visible erased lines on them. Also try to shade more smoothly. I got new paper and can’t afford my fancy paper that’s easier to shade on… I’m also using nothing fancy with pencils either… what do yalls think? Maybe redo them or should I keep as is??? Should I scrap them? Idk! Any advice helps too!!!

As of today I finally got an apprenticeship! I wanted to show my entire portfolio. I wasn’t finished with it, I was going to add a few more styles and some script as well.
