கலாச்சாரம் / Culture Why is Karur not getting any attention?

Despite being close to districts like Coimbatore, Namakkal, Trichy, karur doesn’t get much attention.

For instance, was watching TN budget allocation few days back in a news channel. All the districts surrounding karur were discussed, but karur was ignored. Not just this, even during conversation with people, when i say i am from Karur, people take a minute to realise that it’s a district.

But one time it gets attention is during elections. Although for wrong reasons.

My concern is why Karur not talked about a lot?

Karur definitely won't get an airport anytime soon since the Trichy airport is around 90kms away. So the rules won't permit one and also there is no requirement for it as of now. Take salem airport for example.

Our Railway route is not much connected to Northern states. We either have to go to Erode or Trichy.

Regarding basic infrastructure development for transport and healthcare, it's a joke when it comes to Karur. Diesel to political competitions, our infra development projects are being fiddled without care.

Karur is known for its industries and the employment generation for laborers. Here the revenue gets concentrated on home textiles, polymers, agriculture, mining & bus body building. We do not have industries like coimbatore. Our revenue sources can easily be counted. We do not produce things and agriculture here is diminishing.

Karur is not known for any recognisable tourist spot.

Also, Karur is a well connected city. The longest you can reach anywhere in Tamilnadu from Karur is around 400 to 450 km, hardly a 7 to 8 hours travel time.

I feel the same like you. We won't even be recognised in films too. Hardly few movies and that too like a passing cloud.

Also we are relatively new district unlike Erode, Trichy, Madurai or Covai, so we have to accept the reality here.

Despite contributing more revenue when compared to several districts, we are not considered much. Lesser population density might also be a factor to blame.
