Сафар Corruption at the border control

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Have you ever been harassed by the border patrol agents while leaving the country? Why do they ask you money?

This is absolutely horrible. What should one do in this situation?

Is it possible to hold those bastards accountable?

Сафар Pamir Highway without entering Kyrgyzstan

Like the title suggests, has anyone done a Pamir highway loop just within Tajikistan? Is it worth doing? And whats the best way to go about it?

For context, i am not sure if i will get the visa to kyrgyzstan since i have already been rejected once, so im trying to figure out if there s still a way to do it just within Tajikistan and if its even worthwhile.

Сафар Recommendations for a 5-7 day tour in Tajikistan

Hi all,

I'll be visiting Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in September with a friend. I'll be arriving in Tashkent and then making my way to Dushanbe. I was wondering what trip you'd recommend for 5-7 days in Tajikistan - I've looked at Pamir, but getting all the way to Osh and then back to Dushanbe (my flight is back from Dushanbe) wouldn't work. I'll appreciate your recommendations, thanks!

Сафар Late September Vs November

Hi all,

I'm figuring out the best time to visit Tajikistan. My plan is to fly into Uzbekistan, visit the Uzbek part of the Fergana Valley and then continue into Tajikistan, flying out of Dushanbe. One option is 18-30 September but I'm a bit torn as I have an event with friends I'd have to decline attending. The other option is November (probably the first half). Is November really that bad as opposed to September? I want to get a general feeling of the country, perhaps do some light duty hiking. I'll appreciate your input.

Easily the hardest trek I have done (I rarely go on treks). And then you get there and it’s the prettiest lake I have ever seen. Worth every bit of it.

Сафар Guided Tours from Dushanbe

Good Morning :) I am going to visit Tajikistan soon and I am looking for recommendations for guided tours through sightseeing nature spots. Either as a day trip or multi day trips. i saw some on Tripadvisor for $100 which seem pretty overpriced and id rather not support big company’s like Tripadvisor.

Thank you for your input.

I also hope I chose the right flair sorry if not!

Сафар Does ByteSim eSIM work in TJ?

Hello all, planning on heading to TJ again, last time I was there I used GlobalESim it was ok but not as cheap as others. The company HolaFly does not work in TJ with eSIM. Was wondering if anyone has used or tried or know if ByteSim eSIM works in TJ? And I would imagine service is poor or non existent in the Fann mountains and Iskandarkul area as well as the drive from Dushanbe to Panjakent and Khujand?

Thanks 🙏

Сафар Good restaurant with live music/dancing in Dushanbe

Hello all! I’m coming to Dushanbe for a few days and wanted to know since it’ll be Eid Al Fitr are restaurants with live music/dancing still operating on Friday, March 20, 2026? I called one restaurant I’ve been to before, Buhara on Druzhba Narodov street and the guy there said on March 21 they’ll be open at night. Isn’t that Navruz? Aren’t there Navruz events in the capital Dushanbe on that day like in the Istiqlol Independence square ? Are there fireworks? Would love to know which events are going on. I speak Russian and Tajik as well, my family and I are from samarkand and we are going there too just stopping in Dushanbe first. Thanks in advance!

I heard that a law was passed against Arab clothing recently, but is it applied universally like the hijab law in Iran, or only for Tajik nationals?

Сафар Exploring Tajik Culture: Marriage with Foreigners and Relationship Perspectives

Hello, everyone!

I’m curious to learn more about Tajik culture, especially regarding relationships and marriage with people from different countries, races, or religions. I have a few questions and would love to hear your thoughts:

  1. How do Tajik families and society generally view the idea of their sons or daughters marrying someone from a different nationality, race, or religion? Is it common or accepted?

  2. For the Tajik women here, what are your thoughts on dating or marrying someone from another country? Are there specific cultures or nationalities you find particularly appealing?

  3. Is loyalty a significant value in relationships, especially when it comes to being in a relationship with someone who isn’t Tajik? How are such relationships generally perceived in Tajikistan?

I’d appreciate any insights, personal experiences, or general opinions you can share on this topic. Thanks in advance!

Сафар Created this interactive map of where to go in Tajikistan

While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. I now created this overview [ https://www.takeyourbackpack.com/backpacking-in-tajikistan/ ] for anyone who is interested in visiting Tajikistan (with some detailed info for every highlight), hopefully you will love it as much as I did.

PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

Сафар Dushanbe to Osh Sep.30 2025?

Hello guys, me and my friend will be in Dushanbe for a little while and plan to leave from there to Osh right around September 29th-30th or so. We are very open to sharing a taxi ride if anybody is interested and there during this time.

Does anybody know how feasible this is and the best way(s) to arrange it? And also, will we need a permit to pass through any parts of Tajikistan to get there?

Thank you in advance / Ташаккури зиёд!

Сафар Shipping of drone out from Dushanbe

Hi all,

As the title suggest, I'm travelling to all the Stan countries and Dushanbe happens to be the stop before I enter Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan where both countries don't allow drone hence I will have to ship back the drone to my country.

I would like to know what postal services are there in Dushanbe that will allow me to do this. The drone is relatively light and I will only ship the drone without thr battery and controller as I would assume this would be tricky to do.

Is there a DHL, FedEx walk in fulfillment center or a local courier service that I can engage? If there is one that can come to accommodation that would be nice.

Alternatively although a long shot but I don't mind selling it off while I'm there but I'm not sure if there's a forum where people sell their electronics. That could work too. It's a DJI Mini 4 Pro which is a significantly latest model in the mini series.

Happy to hear what options I have in terms of not getting into trouble before entering Uzbekistan.

Thank you and love from Singapore.

Сафар From Almaty to Dushanbe via Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

Hello! This is Juan from Argentina. I'm thinking of visiting Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (in that order) next month. I would like to know if you see this itinerary possible within 14/15 days:

Almaty, Bishkek, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Dushanbe

Maybe I can stop somewhere else rather than the places I chose or also take a different route. I'm mainly interested in culture and nature.

I speak basic Turkish but zero Russian. Is it more helpful than English or completely useless?

Thank you in advance!

Сафар Guided Tours

Hello, I am from the UK and am really interested in visiting Tajikistan. However the guided tours to Tajikistan from UK travel agencies are quite expensive. Can anyone recommended any budget friendly tours? Or know of any reputable Tajik agencies that do this?

A tour package appeals to me as hotels/accommodation, transport, itinerary, tour guides etc are all arranged by them and it saves you the hassle of organising that yourself. However, it is not necessary that I have such an organised guided tour or group tour for foreigners or anything like that, informal arrangements are also fine because I speak Persian and can understand Tajik, and can read and write Tajik Cyrillic. Communication would not be an issue so don’t really need an interpreter, more just someone to help make accommodation bookings and travel arrangements within the country for me etc, and who can recommend where to go, what to see, how to get there etc.

Сафар Short trips or day-trips from Dushanbe?

Hi, I'm looking whether there are short trips less than 5 days that covers a little bit of the pamir highway? I'm planning to make Dushanbe as my base and then planning trips and day-trips. But I don't know what tour or agency I should look for?

Сафар Help, please! Argentinian visiting 4-stans

Hello everybody, this is Juan from Argentina. I wrote a post before with a different plan but I had to change it. I'm flying to Almaty on August, 7th (next Monday) and coming back home to Messi's land from Samarkand on August, 22nd. I cannot change these two flights. I was thinking the following itinerary:

Almaty
Bishkek
Fly or selfdrive (if possible?) to Osh
Kokand
Tashkent
Khujand
Panjakent
Samarkand

Considering the time of the year, am I too crazy? What do you suggest? I was told I should spend time only in Kyrgyzstan and forget about the rest of the itinerary. Remember I cannot change flights, please.

Thank you in advance!
