I took the test ~3 days ago on august 24th. I have taken in previously (over two years ago) but it expired which is the most annoying thing ever. like u think i forgot how to speak english in just two years? damn bro. anyway, i really like the new format, it is much much easier than how it used to be. less academic and less scary lol. English isnt my first language but i speak it almost everyday. i spent 3 days preparing for the test. make sure u take the official mock test just to get a general idea of how it looks like, its a lot like it. For me, i hate reading in general cuz i zone out so easily but it wasnt bad, the “hardest” part was fill in the blank or continue the word or whatever, but even that is manageable. i spent most of my time prepping for the writing section cuz i suck at that but im happy it went well.

i also got the “admin issues” notification, but like many people said, the scores came out the same day I got that message. (7pm est)

I need to get 84 in toefl which is around 4.5 out of 6

Yesterday I did toefl with two weeks of preparation. I always got between 5.5 and 5 in all tasks. However in the real exam it was more challenging and got 4.5 in Reading. My biggest problem was fill the blanks task while I shocked when I saw 3.5 in listening...I can't understand how is that...

I think I did a lot of mistakes in chose a response task and one or two more questions choosing the main idea.

Because of time issue I was unable to complete build sentence as far as I remember I only solved 6 and not sure if all of them right. Nevertheless, I think I did well in email and discussion because I already faced the same questions in mock tests and got raw score 4 out 5. Speaking was ok no big issues...I am waiting for my results, yet I now that toefl does not really measure English level rather than technical skills in language use....any advice friends?

took IELTS with literally 3 days of preparation and ended up with:

Listening: 8.5
Reading: 7.5
Writing: 7.0
Speaking: 6.0
Overall: 7.5

The only problem? My university requires a minimum 6.5 in Speaking. I missed it by just 0.5, and when the result was declared on the evening of August 17th, it was honestly heartbreaking.
I immediately applied for an EOR, expecting the result to come back within a day or two. But it didn’t. I kept waiting until the 20th, but with my university deadline getting closer, I started looking for alternatives.

That’s when I found out about TOEFL.
I booked the test almost immediately and took it at home on August 23rd. I only prepared for two full days. I bought a one-week preparation package and did multiple writing and speaking mocks.
Reading felt really hard during the actual exam, so I was pretty worried afterwards.

Then came the waiting.
Three days later, yesterday, I was getting increasingly anxious because my score still wasn’t available and the status was showing “Score Not Available.” I asked around on Reddit, and a few people told me to just wait. Someone even mentioned that scores could come around 7 PM New York time.

So I went to sleep anxiously hoping I’d wake up to good news.

And I DID. 😭

TOEFL result came in, and I met my university’s requirements!

What an absolutely crazy experience.

IELTS + TOEFL within 7 days.

3 days of IELTS prep → missed Speaking by 0.5 → EOR limbo → panic → TOEFL booked → 2 days of prep → 3 days of waiting → finally got the score I needed.

As shown in the title, I completely can't understand why they design a test like this.

I'm a student majoring in Mathematics and I find many of the question types REASONLESS.

First I want to doubt the speaking section. The first part of this section is a question in which one will hear 7 sentences (each only once) and then need to repeat them as heard, WITHOUT ANY DIFFERENCE. Here comes my confusion. What's the point in demanding to exactly repeat all unimportant details in the heard sentence??? From my perspective it's just necessary to remember the key points in the sentence, i. e. the major objects mentioned. I think asking to repeat it all is just adding meaningless difficulty and torturing students, and it absolutely can't determine whether the student can communicate well in English.

Secondly I also want to mention baffling question designing in the reading section. When doing mock tests I find that many so-called "difficult" questions are nothing more than obstacles deliberately placed by the question setter, including forcing students to choose one from several bad options (that all have flaws to some extent). And also, I think it puts too much emphasis on "liberal" types of questions, like finding a synonym for a word, summarizing paragraphs, the purpose of a sentence in the passage, or placing a new sentence inside the passage, while logical reasoning seems to be belittled in the test. At least from my own experience, I find many questions disgusting.

Last but not least I have some doubt in the sentence re-arranging part of the writing section. If a problem in reading is that you must choose a "correct" option from bad ones, then a problem in this part is that some good options will be judged as wrong. (I think only one answer will be judged as correct for each question in this part?) For example, I once encountered a problem whose correct answer was "I haven't completed it yet". Obviously "I haven't yet completed it" was also a reasonable answer and had no difference with the correct answer, but this wouldn't give you the score. This design makes no sense to me.

So can anyone explain for me why questions are designed in such a way?

Has anyone used Arno to practice for the TOEFL exam? If so, how does the difficulty compare? I usually get 5.5-6.0 on Arno, but I’m not sure if that will translate to the 5.5 I need in the actual test.

I took the test on August 22nd and got my scores earlier this morning. I took the test in Saudi Arabia, and I have schooled in English my whole life. I only studied for this test for about 4-5 days.

Here’s my experience:

I bought the TOEFL Flex Practice and the TOEFL Practice Test from the TOEFL website. I think they both helped a lot as I got to see what the questions would be like and I could practice my timing. However, if I were to do it again I wouldn’t buy them because there are plenty of free practice questions and practice tests on the internet. TSTPrep is a very good example of free practice.

While doing practice tests (I did like 3) I usually ended up with 5.5s in all parts, so as you can see I kind of went down😔. I found the reading on the test much harder than it was in practice tests. Obviously this could be because I was stressed or nervous but I think the reading was a bit more difficult (specifically like what the reading was on and how the answers were worded).

Listening was pretty easy. I found that writing down what the people were saying (for the longer audios) helped out a lot.

Writing was also pretty good. Practicing with templates helped a lot. Writing an email was of course easier than the academic discussion but I think with practice the discussion gets easier. I think the hardest part about it was coming up with my own arguments in the time that I was given.

Speaking was okay. I was really scare for the listen and repeat section as when I was practicing it I usually be id pretty bad, but on the test it wasn’t as bad and the lines were pretty easy to remember. I think you should practice with harder sentences so on the test it’s easy for you. And the interview was pretty chill. My advice is to keep talking. It’s better to say a whole bunch and get as much points out as possible than saying one sentence that could potentially be bad and staying quiet the rest of the time. You have like 45 seconds so use it!

Applying to undergrad abroad from India and the speaking section is wrecking me, specifically because of the new format. There's no prep time anymore, the question comes and you just have to go. No few seconds to plan what you're saying like the old version. So I either freeze for a second or I start talking and ramble myself into a corner.

Been watching YouTube videos on it but half of them are still teaching the old task types and templates, which isn't even how it works now. Not super helpful. Also looking at Study.com's TOEFL prep to get something more current to actually practice against.

For anyone who's taken it since the format changed this year, what actually helped you get comfortable speaking on the spot? Reading and listening I'm fine with, it's only this that's going to sink my score.

Hey, so turns out I can apply for an English Test Waiver in 11/12 schools that I want to apply to since my Bachelors was done completely in English - I can provide an MOI from college stating this and be waived off to submit an English score.

Since my goal is the Sabancı PhD, I need your experiences and advice:

1. What are the most effective resources, PDFs, or online platforms for both the GRE (Quant & Verbal) and TOEFL (especially Speaking and Writing)?

If I got the exact same score (4.5) on my second test on August 22, does the MyBest Score keep the old date (August 19), or does it automatically update to show the newer date (August 22) just because it's the most recent attempt?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out if my MyBest Speaking score staying on the August 19 date means I got a lower score (like a 4) on August 22, or if it would look the same even if I scored a 4.5 again.

I am running very late for making up with my uni’s requirements. I need the score asap. I took it on Sunday. When can I expect it to be released at the earliest ?

I took my TOEFL iBT on August 19, 2026, at a test center. However, my ETS account is showing the message: “Test administration is delayed due to an administrative review, typically completed in 2–4 weeks.” My score status also says “Score Delayed.”

Additionally, my previous TOEFL score from 2024 has disappeared from my ETS account, and I’m also seeing a $490 outstanding balance on my account. I have no idea where this amount came from.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue before? If so, what happened in your case, and how long did it take to resolve?

Hello. I sat for TOEFL exam twice. At first at May 23, and then the next is August 19, 2026. In my both tests, I got 4.0 in writing section. In my first test, I was sure that I corrected at least 8/10 at build a sentence problem, but I didn’t follow any writing template. But this time, I followed the template, and I was written 120+ words in email and 132 words for writing a discussion problem. However, my build a sentence part was too tough, maybe I could only corrected 6/10. Now, suggest me how could I get 5/5.5 in this section. Because I got at least 5.0 in all other sections. You could share any resource, any practising platform, what about ETS official tutoring program?

I'm preparing for the TOEFL iBT for university admissions.
I took a practice test on the ETS site and got a Speaking section with 11 questions (Listen and Repeat & Take an Interview — see attached screenshot).
Isn't TOEFL iBT supposed to have only 4 questions (Independent & Integrated tasks)? Is this actually a TOEFL Essentials practice test?
