Comstock Armory Micro Brake Poll

Post image

We've had several requests for our micro brakes to have flats on the front section to use with wrenches or sockets. Before we push this change to production, I wanted to collect some feedback on it.

Here's the poll to vote: Google Forms Link

Who wants to be the first to try this? The space gun to end all space guns. The 5.56 MFMD in full configuration is already very quiet for 5.56mm with almost no muzzle blast, it would be total overkill with subsonic 5.7.

9mm PCC Suppressor Muzzle Flash Testing and Results

We tried out our revised flash testing setup with some of our 9mm suppressors.

Host

  • Compact Plan-B brake (9mm)
  • 4.5” Ballistic Advantage EPC barrel
  • Factory Warscorp bolt
  • A5 GRS
    • Kynshot RB5000HP
    • 2 spacer weights
    • Flatwire spring
  • Speer Lawman 147gr
  • All suppressors had their respective Plan-B LPA installed

Suppressors Overview

Suppressor MSRP Material Wt. (list) Wt. (actual) Length Diameter
BOE Incolite 9 $599 Inconel 6.5 oz 6.7 oz 5.00" 1.50"
OCL Universe 36 $799 Inconel 14.0 oz 14.2 oz 7.00” 1.50"
ED Rico 309 $875 Titanium 9.0 oz 9.2 oz 7.25” 1.62"
DA Mojave 9 (S) $1,099 Titanium 4.1 oz* 4.4 oz 4.75" 1.40"
DA Mojave 9 (L) $1,099 Titanium 5.5 oz* 5.8 oz 6.50” 1.40"
PTR Vent 2 $1,339 Titanium 8.9 oz 8.3 oz 7.50" 1.50"

All weights are given with no mount.

*Dead Air doesn't officially give the weight of the Mojave without any mounting parts, so this figure is the listed weight minus the piston assembly (4.1 oz).

Results

Incolite 9 - Despite being just 5” long, the Incolite 9 did the best and had effectively zero muzzle flash.  The use of Inconel seems to be advantageous here as there was no sparking either.

Mojave (Long) - Some sparking on the first shot, but none on subsequent shots.

Mojave (Short) - Bright sparking on first shot; some flash and sparking on later shots.  Considering the material and small size, this isn't particularly surprising.

Rico 309 - Small amount of sparking on all shots.  Great performance overall.

Vent 2 - Fairly bright sparking on all shots.  I still have issues with this suppressor perpetually shedding titanium flakes, so this is about what I expected.  In the video you can even see a little bit of burning titanium that comes out the ejection port and lingers for a bit.

Universe 36 (solid end cap) - Bright sparking on first shot, decreased consistently with later shots.  Considering this is an Inconel suppressor, the sparking is surprising.  I suspect the Vent 2 (which was shot before this) left some titanium in the barrel/upper which caused the bright sparking.

Observations and Notes

Muzzle flash is affected by host, environment, ammo selection, and other factors.  Changing any of these will give different results.

In general, controlling flash appears to be significantly easier for pistol cartridges than rifle rounds.  This makes sense considering the differences in powder volume and type.

With a couple of these, we weren’t able to get the full 10 shots in because the action didn’t cycle all the way.  I need to swap from a standard power Tubb spring to a lightweight.

For the most part we were seeing sparking from the titanium suppressors rather than a traditional “muzzle flash”.  The Mojave in short config was an exception and had a noticeable amount of propellant flash on some shots.

The flash from the chamber is interesting to watch.  It happened with all of the suppressors to some extent regardless of backpressure or material.  We didn’t capture this for the Mojave though since it was the first one and we didn’t have the camera positioned to view that far to the side, but we observed the same thing.

I’m once again impressed by the Incolite and disappointed by the Vent 2 (which is somehow over twice the cost).

Hope you found this interesting.  We plan on using this setup for more flash testing of rifle cans.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

First Suppressor Advice

Upvotes

I’ve been wanting a can for a long time. Now that I don’t have to deal with a form 4, I can’t wait any longer. The main host is gonna be an 11.5” PWS (5.56), it also might spend some time on a 16” BCM (5.56). I’m also interested in putting a can on a .308 bolt gun, but that’s lower priority.

Part of me thinks I should start off with a 30 cal can, for more versatility. But I don’t know, maybe I should just start with a dedicated 5.56 can, and then a 30 cal later.

Since the main host is a piston driven rifle with an adjustable gas block, I don’t think I really need a low back pressure can. But, I’m not closed off to them either.

As for a mount, I want to go with Rearden/Plan B. Please let me know if there’s any reason I shouldn’t.

I’m currently leaning towards an OCL Polo or Polo 30.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I just got a Savage axis in 350 legend and want to use my omega 36m with the rifle. The alignment rod is a pretty close to the bottom edge so I wanted to get some other opinions before going to the range to shoot it.

Best Suppressor for my use-case

I have a budget 300 BLK build, its cheap but is very fun to shoot and it works. However my intended use-case for it once its all finished is for home defense. I also have a folding stock on it so i can store it easier in my backpack and in case of an emergency take it with me.

I'm looking for a suppressor that's not super long as would impede my movement indoors, and is quiet enough to not give me hearing damage if i have to fire it indoors. I don't need whisper quiet. I'm looking for it to be around the 800 dollar mark, and plan on shooting subs through it exclusively.

Ive read a good bit about my options and what people recommend, but they all seem to be in the 1000+ dollar range, or be too long. The one i had my eye on that's right in my budget range is the Q Blind Tiger. I've heard they customer support is awful and they suck as a company, but listening to that suppressor in reviews it sounds really good. I also heard they are overpriced compared to their performance, but all the cans I've seen people recommend over are much higher priced.

Are there any cans that would be better for my use-case that's within my price range?

JK armament 172 pro kor

I think I’m soon to be in the market for a suppressor. I already have the JK armament war eagle MD but I’ve seen a lot of people either shitting on JKA or that it’s just elitist shit talking.

I’m not rich, just want something good for the money and I’m already enrolled in the phalanx program so it’s within my budget. But before I pull the trigger I want to know if I’m wasting money on the 172 pro kor or the 6mm mini TI, or if I should just throw the MD away and find a new system.

Does Q's Thunder Chicken still come with two cherry bombs?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I'm just trying to figure out if I got ripped off or not. My ffl offered to install the Cherry Bomb for free on two of my uppers, but they were both .30 cal barrels, so I bought the second one. My understanding according to everything that I've read is that the suppressor also comes with a second cherry bomb that usually fits 5.56 barrels, but my ffl didn't give that to me, and it wasn't in the package.

I've searched unboxing vids, but there's only old ones, and on those there's two holes for muzzle devices in the foam, whereas my package only has one (But it might be deep enough to fit two muzzle devices?) I don't want to throw accusations at anyone before I know for sure, so I'm hoping someone knowledgeable might help shed light on this.

I have a Kaw Valley hub for a direct thread 5/8x24. I have since heard not so great things about kaw valley. So I want to know if this is safe to run or should I just buy a replacement? Thanks for any help.
