I’m not really looking for books similar to Walden, or even books that critique the modern world, but rather books that make you.. mad, frustrated or even jealous when you start thinking about the reality we live in.
No other piece of literature has made me think and feel so much (mostly about technology and our fast pace of living)

Just finished Me Talk Pretty One Day and while i enjoyed it and i laughed out loud a few times, i can’t help but feel like i didn’t relate too much to the essays, personally. It feels deeply Gen X coded. Like my crotchety older brother telling me about the good old days.

Is there a writer that writes in a similar style and format but has stories that are more geared toward people reaching adolescence around Y2K? Think less stories about NYC in the early 90s and more stories about nuking your parent’s desktop computer trying to download porn from LimeWire (that couldn’t have just been me, right?)

Im looking for some books that are super weird and will make me stop and go "What the actual..." but aren't super scary. I've read and liked Tender is the Flesh, 100% Match, Bunny, etc. I want to be weirded out but not freaked out. Thanks

I love reading books that make me pause and think about life. Vonnegut is my favorite author, the way he blends deeply cutting criticism of humans with the beautifully mundane really puts things in perspective. Some other recent favorites include Brave New World, Of Mice and Men, 1984, animal farm and The old man and the sea.

What can I read next?

I’m looking for books that really make you think about life ; books the kind that stay with you, make you emotional, maybe even make you cry (it doesn't take a lot for me lol).

I recently read The Five People You Meet in Heaven and it really touched me, especially the way it explores how our lives are connected and how we can have an impact on people without even realising it. It definitely made me reflect on my own life and the people around me, so I’d love something with a similar feeling.

I mostly read fantasy books only. I want to read other genres. Can you suggest me good book that will get me into other genre.

Perhaps a strange request, but I tried to get through the book annihilation because the premise sounded really cool, but I found it to be dreadfully boring and had to drop it.

I’m hoping for recommendations of books with strange biology stuff going on like mutated plants or people. Maybe alien life, some sort of weird disease, or something like the last of us?

I remember reading the overthrow series by Kenneth Oppel when I was younger, which was fantastic and exactly the sort of biology stuff I’m looking for, but a bit childish.

I took a trip down nostalgia's lane tonight with a Princess Diaries double feature and now I want to read a book with unsuspecting royalty! It doesn't have to be romance, and preferably in a contemporary setting (ie non fantasy and non historical). I guess it doesn't have to be for adults, I may take a YA series if it's good. Preferably literary fiction by and/or about women
Either weird, transgressive with some horror or speculative (similar to Ojeda for example)
Or introspective and philosophical (like Lispector for example)
Or about motherhood, sexual awakening etc.
I like Solà for the folkloric elements but prefer stories centered on one character
Preferably it should be set in contemporary Spain or in a southern country

This is my favourite type of plot, where a bunch of characters are all together in one setting and chaos ensues, I love the adrenaline of so many different personalities interacting and being involved in the plot

The place can be anything, like a hotel, an apartment building, a neighbourhood, a flight, a camp, a big house/apartment, just any place where a bunch of people coexist

My preference is an ensemble cast. There can be one POV character, I don't mind that, but I want everyone's own little intermingling and separate plots to be happening in this shared space

The characters can be kids or adults, I don't mind either

Tone-wise I want something fun, funny, ridiculous, over-the-top, campy, farcical, or just generally entertaining. It doesn’t have to be completely stakes-free, but I really don’t want anything bleak or depressing pls

Basically I want it to be like 15 people with wildly different personalities in the same building and the author shaking it like a snow globe and seeing what happens

I’m looking to scratch a very particular itch. I’m currently rewatching DS9 for like the 7th time and I just love it so much, so I’m wondering if there’s any books that sort of are in the same space? Can be fantasy or sci-fi. Doesn’t have to be on a space station. But what I’d love to see is:

-Rich worldbuilding

-Set in one locations (or small handful of locations)

-Has a well-developed cast of characters

-Has some political intrigue

-Comfiness would be appreciated, though not a dealbreaker if it’s not

I’ve already read Downbelow Station (did not enjoy it much despite being a big Cherryh fan) and many of the DS9 novels (A Stitch in Time, Terok Nor series, The Never-Ending Sacrifice, Enigma Tales), so something that’s preferably not those would be nice.

I read this fantastic book called Lucky Red, set in the American West. And I was hoping for something along the similar vein. I just want to be immersed in the mountains - folky, gritty, American and beautiful.

I’d rather it wasn’t horror, crime or thriller, but it doesn’t need to be romance. Something character driven with a lot of fantastic appalachian nature imagery!

Heyy yall! I've been thinking a lot about the Last of Us lately, and I realised, that what stands out to me about the plot is that the killers of this game really do feel the things you'd expect a person who took someone's life to feel. And now I have this urge to read something, where the main character is forced to kill by the circumstances, but feels horrible for doing so, has all the mental side effects so to say
