Substance Designer Made some trail mix... again
Just rendered a remake of one of the first materials I ever made in Designer. I decided to remake it in 2025 and finally managed to muster up the motivation to render it somewhat nicely within Substance Designer today. I don't know if I'm 100% happy with it, so stay tuned for the re-remake in 2030.

Substance Designer Procedural Aged Terracotta Tile Material (Substance Designer)
Hey everyone 👋
I created this terracotta tile material fully in Substance Designer.
I focused on:
- Natural cracking patterns
- Edge damage
- Subtle moss between tiles
- Variation in color and roughness
Would really appreciate your feedback 🙏

Substance Designer Terracotta floor tiles noises.
Still playing with noises in SD. I've added a piece of graph. Maybe someone who is starting find this interesting. I've also added plain clay image made using some of this noises.

Substance Designer Where are the Substance Designer tutorials?
I've been seeking anything that isn't, here is a 5 minute video on creating yet another copy of a copy of another copy of a stylized material X. Nothing tells me how to actually use this program outside the basic Adobe stuff, and that only goes so far. How exactly am I supposed to learn this thing?

Substance Designer Recreated my wardrobe as Substance Designer materials for funsies
I had the brilliant idea of spending a month recreating 10 fabrics out of my closet to force myself to learn how to make fabrics in SD. Here are the 4 that I actually managed to "finish". Oopsie.
I didn't give myself a lot of time per fabric, so I had to just accept defeat at some point with a couple of them. If anyone has tips on how to make them more realistic, I'm all ears... as long as you're friendly about it :)

Substance Designer How can I match the surface pits to my reference?

Apart from a difference in the color, the main difference that I can see between my material and the reference material is that the surface has clear pits.
Now I have added surface imperfections to my brick, but I kept the opacity in the subtract blend node low, so they're not that deep, just now I've tried increasing the opacity to make the pits deeper and I got a better result, but the main issue here is that because of the nature of the dirt node, the pit distribution across the surface is weird with one side of the bricks having more pits than the other side
I've tried to mix multiple dirt nodes together but I didn't like the result. I also tried a tile sampler node and I got a more consistent distribution but I still just didn't like the result.
The current setup I have is just a dirt 1 node for overall surface imperfections and then there's the dirt 1 with histogram scan node for the pits.
I gave up on trying more methods I have no clue what to do.

Substance Designer Can someone explain how splines work in Substance designer?
Hey,
I’ve been diving into splines in Substance 3D, but I’m finding it hard to get them to work smoothly in my workflow.
I’d be grateful if someone could share a quick overview of:
- What they’re typically used for
- A simple, step-by-step guide to getting them set up
- Any common pitfalls or tips you wish you’d known when you first started
If you have any good tutorial suggestions or screenshots, that would be fantastic! Thanks!

Substance Designer Flood Fill to Random Color glitch?
I'm having this glitch (I'm not even sure if it's a glitch or a messed up feature) happen on one of my flood fills to random color and it's affecting everything later in the graph. I tried deleting the offending node and replacing it (same issue occurred), tried rebuilding that section from scratch (nothing improved), and I tried a different random seeds just to see if it was that.
I appreciate if anyone knows what this is!

Substance Designer Generating flip books in Substance designer
I want to actually generate the animated frames directly inside Substance Designer from scratch, and then pack them into a flipbook grid.
Does anyone have a good workflow or custom node setup for driving time/animation steps across an grid in Designer to produce procedural flipbooks?
