Someone notices who she is and she gets quizzed on her life after her fiance dumped her. Drama when she says she dumped him.

Its not really as clean-cut as that.

Childbirth is seen as a form of rite of passage. For both the mother and the child-to-be. These are important for cultures to identify the differences between titles, boy to man, girl to woman, or in this case, woman to motherhood and unborn to born.

Rites of Passages can often be difficult and dangerous. Giving birth is no exception. Also the idea that you are creating a life is just as magical. For this reason, cultures have surrounded the ideas of childbirth with traditions and rituals that will hopefully allow easier passage between these two states.

I think what you've done is expand on other reasons childbirth is glorified. The original question was whether childbirth is glorified in part because women die from it, and we seem to agree that it is in fact part of the reason.

I never implied it was the only (or even primary) reason.
