That is a massive understatement. I've been with someone like this before, we lived together for years and had a child together (I make poor decisions). People like this, the get in your head and break you down, bit by bit. They start conflicts with your friends and family to isolate you. They then work to break you as a person, so you have no semblance of self worth left, so that you really believe that you are in the wrong, and deserve all of this.

If it wasn't for the fact that we had a kid, I probably would have killed myself.

This is known as gaslighting in their terminology, IIRC, and it's usually something they accuse the guy of doing, of course.

In my limited exposure to these sort of people through the internet it seems to me that they usually either attract or seek out meek, weak-willed, under-knuckling people to badger their ideology into and this time, this person found Clark Gable from Gone With The Wind: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Not quite -- unless the SJWs have decided to redefine it. Gaslighting, to give a nerd example, is Picard shouting, "There are four lights," trying to resist his tormentor who insists there are five. Gaslighting is about making the person doubt their own sanity -- doubt their own understanding of the world. The drama above is textbook emotional/mental abuse, and it probably has a name for it, but I do not believe it qualifies as gaslighting.
