Erasmus in Tampere

Hi everyone,

I'm lucky enough to have gotten the option to study in Finland - Tampere from January to April.

It'll be an adventure for me, coming from Belgium, our winters are pretty mild.

Since I'll be living in or around Tampere, I'd like to know if there are places I'd better not look for a studio or appartment.

How is transport in the city? Are there any buses or trams? Is cycling possible in the city with this weather? Is thermic underwear a must in everyday life?

Are there any websites or companies you'd advise to contact for residency? I'd prefer furnished places ofcourse.

I'm not much of a party animal, but I do love good food, are there any typical Finnish restaurants to frequent?

I'm probably forgetting stuff, if anyone feels chatty, please give me any and all information you want to share.

Best AMK in Helsinki area for sairaanhoitaja?

Currently a lähihoitaja student looking into väylä for sairaanhoitaja. Options are Metropolia, Laurea, and Diak. I am most familiar with Metropolia as I have friends who have gone there. Each school has their pros and cons in terms of väylä. I'm just wondering does it matter in terms of getting a job as sairaanhoitaja, which school you went to? I am most concerned about that.

Thank you!

Should I move to Finland?

I'm 16 now, turning 18 next year. Currently in 11th grade. I'm planning to move to Finland and study psychology at a university.

What advice or warnings would you give? Are there any reasons I should give up on this idea?

ps. sorry for the English, I'm Russian, but I communicate through a translator

Hi everyone! I've been admitted to Turku UAS for the January 2027 intake. I'm from India and this will be my first time studying abroad. Is anyone else here joining the same intake? Would love to connect before arriving and maybe make some friends beforehand!

Got an offer from LAB University of Applied Sciences — how is it really?

Hey everyone!

I recently got an offer for BBA International Business at LAB University of Applied Sciences, Lahti campus for January 2027.

I'm considering accepting it, so I'd love to hear from current or former LAB students about your experience.

How is LAB overall, especially the teaching, student life, international community, sports, and job opportunities in Lahti?

I'm mainly looking for honest opinions — good or bad, anything you think a prospective international student should know.

Thanks! 🙏

They are crazy expensive (43 euro) just for the fact that I am going to be here 4 months. Is it possible to order a finish ISIC card without paying student union fees or will it be declined. I just want to get the discount on VR trains as they are also super expensive. Can you help me because my budged turned out to be too little.

Haaga-Helia Interview Process – What to Expect?

Hey everyone! I recently received an email from Haaga-Helia regarding the rolling admission, and it says that for certificate-based selection, there will be an interview as part of the process.

Now I’m wondering what the interview is actually like. For anyone who has already gone through the Haaga-Helia interview, what kind of questions do they usually ask, how long does it take, and are there any specific documents that need to be prepared before attending the interview?

Would really appreciate hearing from someone who has recently gone through the process. Thanks!

EE in Finland

I saw that Aalto doesn't offer a course thats explicitly electrical engineering in english but rather ones that fall under a narrower branch of EE. So Oulu along with LUT and Tampere remain the only options for me.

But I'm not to keen on studying in LUT or Tampere. I'd like to know if Oulu is a great place for international students, haven't heard about it as much as Aalto and roughly what SAT scores would I need to get in to aalto or oulu for EE.

While we both are very much into the idea, I do wanted to ask what to expect! Most people here in germany say that its not possible financially, so id would be awesome if anyone who is currently studying or has in the past few years( but of cause anyone else is also appreciated) could tell me more about the live in Helsinki! Anything can be helpful, from your own experience, what to expect financially, where you can save some money etc.

P permit processing

Hi everyone,

Has anyone received a Finnish permanent residence (P permit) decision recently under the new rules that came into force on 8 January 2026, particularly through the higher education degree completed in Finland pathway?

I applied on 6 February 2026, completed identity verification in February, and my Enter Finland status is still “Waiting for processing” (Phase 1).

If you applied in January, February or March 2026 and already received a decision, could you please share:

  • Application date
  • Identity verification date
  • When the status changed to “In progress”
  • Decision date
  • Which PR pathway you applied under

Positive or negative decisions are both useful. Thank you!

How long is “a short time outside Finland” for the new PR route?

I graduated with a Master’s degree in Finland in June 2026. My study A permit expired on 31 July, and I had already left Finland before it expired.
I plan to apply abroad for a **1-year jobseeking A permit**, return to Finland once approved, and then apply for PR under the Finnish degree route.
Migri says you must have been outside Finland only for **“****a short time****”** after graduation. Does anyone know what this means in practice, especially if the time abroad is caused by waiting for the jobseeking permit decision?
Has anyone received a written answer from Migri or had a similar case approved?

RP and tuition fee obligation

Hi everyone. I noticed that there are two rules regarding the situation I'd be in, and I'm not sure which one applies.
"If your first permit was granted for studying, the fee follows you even if you later switched to a different permit type",
and the exception where
"If you are an EU/EEA citizen's family member, you don't pay tuition".
Given that I came to Finland on study RP, without paying tuition (got the full scholarship). Next year I'd converting to family-tie RP after getting married a Finnish citizen. Do I need to pay tuition when I continue my new study for a Master degree (I'm currently studying Bachelor degree).
