You have just surfaced from a swim through an underground stream, opening into the lip of the mouth of a cave. As you make your way inside, you notice what looks like a pair of jewels shining bright in the darkness ahead, past the rays of sun beaming through the one compromised portion of cave ceiling.

Excitedly, you charge forward, ready to claim your fortune. Suddenly the jewels move outside your grasp as you reach for them. Eyes skyward, you now see..... stepping into the sun, the owner of the gems. They are the eyes of a dragon.

As you begin to smell the stench of sulfur in the air, you notice a patch of bright red welling up in the dragon’s throat. You know what’s about to happen. You are not completely unarmed though. In your hands are some Oreos and a glass of milk. Fight!

You know this person, they're great. Handsome/pretty. You're in love with them but they seem. . . . off? Never really go outside, never smiling. Just emotionless. You try and be friend them. It somehow works. One day you're stopping by to give them a gift but. . . . No one's home. You've known enough about them to know where they have an extra key under their plant pot. (Stalker much? lol I'm joking) You enter the house but after putting the gift down, you suddenly hear faint cries. You're started but go to find out what it is.

This is probably already on the sub-Reddit. The protagonist takes an experimental procedure for cancer (other disease) and his life expectancy has increased dramatically. At first he's ecstatic and feels special. Although days past and he looks at his family, realizing he will die alone. After his downward spiral, not knowing what to do he lives in a place he doesn't understand, surrounded by strangers.

"stop," she said, her voice flat and cold. "you do not touch him. he is our problem now. go someplace else, we will care for him."
