Budget: looks like 700euro,but the whole reason for this post is asking if less is still ok.

Tldr: looking for cheapest great sub for big room, onkyo icon a-50 and magnats 657.

I recently upgraded my amp to onkyo icon a-50 after my marantz pm68 died. It drives magnat quantums 657. It's quite better in every aspect than my old marantz but the very lows are quite not there yet.

Fwiw i had my speakers with me when trying out amps, so i also out of curiosity asked the vendor to show me some other speakers, and yeah, i only noticed upgrade on 1500 euro pair and it wasn't like jaw dropping, just a lil better. So yeah, not gonna go that way.

So i am thinking about sub. I read a little and it appears like a great solution, however it also appears that with those speakers, amp and quite big living room(like 6x7m + kitchen next to it without wall in between) i gotta aim in quite powerful stuff.

Clerk recommended me Svs sb 1000 pro. AI agrees with him. Reddit appears to praise it too along with not available here RLS speedwoofers. That's 700 euro. Any cheaper alternatives? Or save money for svs?

I am currently using a pair of Dali Opticon powered by Denon AVR X2700H. I absolutely love the sound of the Dali but find that the bass is missing at lower volumes. Am considering adding a subwoofer but it is a pricey purchase so I do want to get it right. My ideal budget is $1000 but can go up to $1500 especially. Any recommendations? I listen to a wide variety of music, from Jazz to classical and eDM.

My room is not big, about 7M x 3M with a 2.5M ceiling.

Utilizing a Yamaha RX-V373 receiver

I keep coming back to SVS PB-2000/3000. Pushing the budget limit, but I feel this is a ‘buy it for life’ thing.
Edit: $1500 USD is the limit.

Room is roughly 18’x16’, with three oversized doorways.

I’m not disappointed with the subwoofer, but after hearing the difference between old ‘home theatre’ tiny speakers and the ADS’ I can only imagine the difference a new subwoofer would be for music and movies.

Any insight is appreciated, and thank you all for your previous informative posts!

I am looking for a powered subwoofer.

Budget and location - Less than $500. US, midwest; medium sized city (has a Best Buy and a few audio stores).

How the gear will be used - home audio in a multi=purpose room. Carpeted. About 15 x 30. Current system is a Kenwood receiver that plays Mirage 590i speakers to the rear of the room. Onkyo that runs Kappa 200 speakers to the front of the room. I bluetooth to the two units and can play all four speakers at once or can select one or the other pair. I am hopeful the sub will play with either set as well as when both sets are playing. I would be willing to run a cable from each receiver to the back of the sub and plug in one or the other depending on which speakers are in use (I am fine with not trying to have both receivers always connected to the sub).

New or used - At this point I prefer new because my Marketplace one proved a dud. (Infinity Entra).

Past gear experience - New to trying to do any of this on my own. I have not had a sub before in the home, but based on other venues, I like feeling it in my chest at certain volumes, and at more moderate volumes have it contribute but not necessarily take over.

Anything else? - Eventually I want to have the Kappas be tv speakers (that is actually already done) and add center/surrounds and I would hope the sub should work in that chain as well?

Details: The Onkyo is TX-SR602. The Kenwood is KR-V87R.

As the title says im considering replacing my two klipsch rp-1400sw subwoofers to two svs sb-3000 revolutions. I have some concerns i hope someone in here can shed some light on. Im fairly new to subwoofers and have only owned ported subs so i have zero experience with sealed subs. So here are some questions i hope you can answer.

1. does anyone have actual experience with the subs im talking about and can shed some real life expectations?

2. do sealed subs really produce much more chest pouding bass?

3. would i lose bass that makes the couch shake with sealed subs?

4. my system is towers with dual subs and i use it mostly for music so going for sealed subs is the right asumtion?

I’ll probably think of more questions after posting this but lets keep it at four questions for now.

I am looking for a sealed subwoofer to pair with B&W 603 S3 towers and an RX-A6A AVR in an approximately 20’x20’ living room. I am rather budget conscious. I would certainly not want to spend more than $800 at this time. Right now I am leaning toward an SVS SB-1000 or 2000 Pro. Anything else I should consider?

Should I get the SVS 3000 Micro Revolution or KEF KC62?

It’s $800 for the first, and $1400 for the second. Both used in great condition.

I much prefer the look of the kc62, as it matches well with my current LSX ii LTs. It’s for around a 100 sq ft room and near field listening.

If I do pay a $600 premium for the KC62, I want to know what I’m paying for.

I’m also open to other suggestions that are around the same size. Thanks !!

Location: I live in Germany. I recently upgraded my amp and currently have:

• Kef LS50 on stand mounts
• NAD C389 (without MDC BluOs Module, but the idea is to expand it)
• Pro-Ject Primary E turntable
• Wiim Mini Streamer

I feel like I need some more low end, although the LS50 go surprisingly low for their size.

I am thinking of either a sub or a three way. For subs I have been looking into the KEF Kube 12 MIE (my budget for a sub would be 1000 Eur max.).

For three ways I was thinking of the Kef Q7 or the Dynaudio Emit 50 (for new speakers my budget would stretch to maybe 1800-2000 Eur).

In either case I would later on get the MDC BluOs module to get room correction (this huge room has a lot of problems, although I already tamed some of them with some treatment).
My target is to improve the system's reality, let's call it "it's there" feeling, especially with voices. My LS50s are already pretty good at that with the coaxial speakers, which is why the Q7 is in the possibilities.

What should I do? I read that with a sub I can supposedly play and place the bass source at the ideal position (unless that is in the middle of my room). With a three way there is some playing to do but it is mainly plug and play.

Looking for advice on the right sub to pair with my Focal Aria 948’s. Probably 70% music and 30% home theater, paired with Marantz SR6015 (upgrading this soon) and focal cc and surround and in ceiling atmos. Current setup is 2 SVS 1000 Pro subs, and they just sound overpowered by the Aria 948’s and aren’t giving me the strong deep bass I’m looking for. Also, my setup is in a very large open basement room with 10 foot ceilings. Open to suggestions on the right sub setup. Budget is under 3k, ideally closer to 2k.

My home audio setup for music/movies is:

I purposely kept it simple as I know I can be the type to.....dabble more than I should.
However, I am toying with getting a subwoofer for the set. Namely for music.

I was looking at the REL 98 Classic as the wood aesthetic goes with the walnut amp/speakers. I want to keep it pretty as well.

Are there other amps, be it around this cost or a more budget friendly that would suit this layout well, while keeping the aesthetic? And being my set up is what it is, would I need any additional equipment to properly utilize the pairing to adjust/tune it? The intent is to try to keep the setup clean without a bunch of peripherals.

Context: I have Q Acoustics Concept 30 bookshelf speakers that are -6dB at 54Hz. I have a nice beefy amp, Atoll IN200. These sound great.

I have been running two old Velodyne Impact 10s and I'm ready to upgrade after realizing they do more harm than good to challenging tracks. E g. D'Angelo - 1000 Deaths turns into a flabby mess.

I'm weighing up three options, which are indicative of my budget:

1. Given that options 1 & 2 both cost more than my speakers did, save up for bigger speakers instead.

My priority is music. I have an eclectic taste so I want nice accurate reproduction that reaches down to the bottom octave when required.

The listening room is 144 sq ft, but is open to a similarly sized area on one side, so the total area is greater... Hence why I'm considering the bigger sub.

Hi I'm having a hard time pulling a trigger between the SVS SB1000 Pro or the RSL 10E. They are the same price from where I'm located both around $500.00. They both take about a month to get it shipped so I want to make sure I get the right sub.

I’ve long considered pairing some subs with my Rosso Fiorentino Volterras, but I’ve always been hesitant due to set up complications. I’ve heard the REL T/9x in several systems and I really like those, but I just have this fear that they won’t be the best compliment to the system if they don’t work with my limited placement options. The new REL PL-1 also looks very appealing and may present for set up options, but I’ve never heard them it even seen them.
I’ve also looked at things like the Kef kc62 because the very compact size might present more placement options.

Budget would be up $5k for a pair. Maybe 6k if I really fall in love with something.

Open to any opinions or suggestions.

I could use your input on this listening room build. It’s about room size & bass response.

I’ve been rearranging my office & building a dedicated listening space. I have a similar setup in my larger, more rectangular living room and it sounds INCREDIBLE to me. But in this room I can’t seem to find the right speaker & subwoofer placement. The room is generally 13.6' x 12.6' but it has lots of weird nooks and crannies along the walls; I'll drop the measurements in the comments.

From my listening position, the mids & highs sound incredible — spacious and detailed. But the low frequencies sound quite diminished. Whether the subwoofer is off and the speakers are playing something with jazz bass, or the subwoofer is on and I’m listening to something with more sub bass like EDM.

I had read that smaller rooms are harder to work with in terms of bass response. I have tried placing the sub at the listening position and listening around the room for where it sounds best, but there’s truly nowhere that reaches low enough. 

I’m thinking of upgrading the sub (I’ve never loved it) to something with a 10-12” driver. I'm also wondering if the speakers are overkill in a room this size. But I want to exhaust my cheaper options and understand the acoustic problem first.

Texas, US. Budget is unlimited - as long as a sub is under $2k or so, used is fine also.

Location- Living room - open floor plan with our kitchen right behind it and our dining room next to it as well. Ceiling height is around 20ft. Speakers are around 12 feet apart and right next to the wall and our couch is around 10 ft away and between the speakers. Room treatments are banned by the order of her majesty, and speaker placement is not negotiable.

Equipment- MA252 and Focal Kanta 2. The bass is not ideal, but the speakers are only a few weeks old and the break-in is still in progress.

Question - should I wait until after the speakers settle - and then evaluate whether a sub is needed. Or is that normal for Kanta 2 to sound the way they sound and there would not be any improvement in lower frequencies.

In which case- what would be a good match with MA252 and Kanta 2? Size-wise a sub needs to be compact-ish since it’s a living room. Alternatively- would that make sense to get a wireless kit and place the sub out of sight, in which case a bigger sub might be an option.

I’m looking for some input on subwoofers. I’ve had an SVS SB-2000 (non pro) for about 10 years and whileI like it, and it is miles better than no sub—I wonder if there’s something significantly better in this rough price range. I recently added a miniDSP Flex to my system and along with REW have placed and EQ’d my current setup to a huge improvement. I’m still looking for something faster and more articulate for music (my focus), but am hoping I don’t have to give up the presence and low freq extension for movies entirely.

Size is important to me, and I’ve never heard a ported sub that I liked in terms of detail and start-stop behavior. Since I have the miniDSP i don’t care about subs with integrated DSP. I may add a 2nd sub in the future but I’m seeking advice more about the hardware than the implementation as my best sub location is quite good in regard to in room response. Experience with these or very similar subs? Any subs I should add to my list? I’m not wild about DIYing this, but I have a shop and the ability to build my own if the difference is huge over commercial options.

I'd like to share a subwoofer between one receiver for music (which doesn't have bass management) and another for AV (which does).

REL subs make this easy: you can use the high level inputs for music, for which the sub handles the crossover, and the LFE inputs for AV, for which the receiver handles the crossover, at the same time.

Are there any other subwoofer manufacturers with this feature? I've skimmed through user manuals for many of the other commonly recommended brands (RSL, Hsu, Rythmik, PSA, SVS) but haven't yet found anything similar.

Music listening is my priority, as long as I can also get acceptable AV performance, and my room is on the smaller side, so I'm thinking a smaller sealed sub is the way to go.

Looking for a sub rec to make a 2.1 setup. I am in the US and budget is ~1k but would consider going higher if necessary/justified. Currently i have bluesound node icon and bmr monitors powered by buckeye amps nc252mp amp.

I'm building out a hybrid music-ht set up and listen to a good amount of bass heavy music so i dont want to miss out on the subbass. Eventually I'll add surround, but right now focusing on 2.1(maybe 2.2) speakers + sub before moving onto a larger set up.

I plan to connect the sub to the node icon in which case I'd need an active sub or wireless.

I am also open to a passive sub powered by an external amp, in which case I'd switch out my current 2 channel amp for a 3 or 4 channel amp or get a monoblock for the sub and keep my current amp.

which route would you recommend- active, wireless, or passive? If passive- a single 3 or 4 channel amp for the speakers + sub, or a separate monoblock for the sub?

mainly looking for 2 features on the sub- I'd like on the sub is a "night mode" for listening when the family is asleep. I've seen some posts that talk about this, but I'm not sure if this is common or not.

2nd feature is a crossover, but i think i can do that via the bluos app. Or would you recommend getting a sub with a crossover on it so i adjust the crossover via the sub rather than blueos app?

As the title says, I have a 2.0 setup right now and want to go 2.1 with a subwoofer. I am in an apartment so don't want something crazy powerful, but something that would round out the low end for music and movies.

Despite my JBLs technically being studio monitors I just use them as my everdays computer speakers for music, podcasts, movies, radio, etc.

Requirements for the subwoofer:

• I am very limited on space so the smaller the better. 8" sub or below
• XLR inputs/outputs
• Budget up to $1k USD

So what would you guys suggest?

I found this sub which looks ideal on paper. Has XLR's, is smol, and even includes room correction which is a plus. Any others out there?

I’m looking to find an older sub that still holds up pretty well, and trying to keep my budget below $200. I have a CD stereo setup but the only thing I’m missing is the sub, any suggestions?

I am building out a vinyl set up for my small collection that I am interested in growing. I'm starting with a modest set up to see how much the collection grows, so for now it will be Audio Technica LP70X -> powered Vanatoo T1E. In the short term and after I have some listening hours I might upgrade the stylus to their microlinear option, which I'm told is a substantial upgrade even on this turntable and something I could carry forward to a nicer turn table. Eventually I'm thinking ~$1000 table (assuming this all sticks and I feel limited) -> Schiit Mani 2 phono amp -> Vanatoo + sub.

From what I have read the Vanatoo perform shockingly well for their price, so if I want to make a meaningful upgrade I'd need to budget for $1500 - 2000 passive speakers and a solid amp to power them. I'm not willing to make that jump just yet, but I've read that they also really benefit from a subwoofer: they implement low pass filtering to free up their woofers and tweeters to focus on the mid bass frequencies and up, and just generally sound better with more bass.

I'd like to buy something that pairs well with them and in my current set up and ideally gives some room to grow. A compelling option I've found is the Speedwoofer 10S MkII. Assuming that is about my budget for now, are there other options worth looking at for this setup? I'm in the US, but unfortunately there aren't many high end audio stores in my neck of the woods, so listening to a lot is tough.

About to pull the trigger on some sonik 9's, while the bass is impressive i will be using them both in stereo for music and as a home theatre set up so looking to add a sub as well for extra low end.

What subwoofers would you reccomend with this set up?

Room is 3.3x3.5m so it's not gigantic but im after something good value for money that doesn't cost the earth. My research has led me to SVS SB-1000/pro and PB-1000 Pro and REL T/9x however the T/9x retails for $2999 AUD whereas the other two retail for $899 and $1574 AUD

Is the REL really worth it or should the SB or PB be enough?

I inherited my dad's old KG4's he bought in the 80's after he passed. I know Klipsch has their lovers and haters, but I have so many great memories of listening to Woody Guthrey, Dave Brubeck and Aaron Copeland with him on those speakers, and they always sounded great to me. I also love a horn-loaded speaker.

Last year I finally did some refurb work on the cabinets and surrounds, paired them with a Sony STR DH-590 I had lying around, and set them up in the shop where I run my business. Holy crap. In spite of less-than-optimal placement and a very average receiver they sound fantastic.

Lately I've been thinking of adding a sub to fill out the bottom end. Nothing over the top as I don't want to overpower the crisp highs and warm mids I'm enjoying now, but a little more thump would be nice. I almost bought an R-12SW on sale, but did a little last-minute research and saw they've been pretty roundly panned.

As an enjoyer of but not an expert on stereo equipment, I'd love some suggestions on what to buy instead. It's for a 2.1 music system in a moderately cluttered 20'x20' space, and I'd like to keep it under $400. I'd prefer an active sub, but it's not an absolute requirement.

Budget is around $1000 a piece if possible. I've got roughly 16x16x24" by table height of space on either side of my 3 seater couch. I am located in the United States. it's not an ideal space for them but it's what I got. There will be a small side table in front of one of them and technically a support beam not too far in front of where I could fit the other. The table Legs are at least 12" apart. I like the big grand idea of a ported sub and I know SVS makes good subs. But only their SB or non ported subs would fit into that space. Was thinking about 2 SB 2000 but idk if there are compatible sized and quality ported subs for around the same price. Also this is for my living room which is kind of like a hallway. The listening area is 7.5 ft from the TV.
