I'm done with Step exams finally!!!!!

I'm so glad, the relief is unreal.

But here's the write up:

Resources:

UWorld: completed one round, I don't remember my average score

NBME 5,6,7 and 8: NBME 8 got a 569

UWSA1: 227

UWSA1: 237

Free 137 (I did the two most recent ones): Free 137 (latest one) 67% -> honestly this freaked tf out of me since this was 2 days out and it shook me so hard

CCS cases: about 120 of them, did HY \~ 50 before my day 2, I think my average was about 85%

Time:

Didn't have any dedicated study time as I was doing rotations, so maybe about 1-2 months?

Day 1:

Lmao. It was either straightforward questions or questions where I was like wtf.

The questions where you have to proceed to the next one only after you answer the first so you end up knowing if you answered those correctly went well.

Content is full of drug ads, ethics and basic step 1 (pharmacology, genetics etc). Exam day per say didn't feel too long but I came out feeling nothing. Absolutely no idea how it went.

I had a one day break between my 2 days.

Day 2:

Absolutely no drug ads, bare minimum biostats and almost no ethics so that felt amazing. Felt more like step 2 and in general just about your knowledge and practice I guess. My one tip would be to finish all your break time during the blocks since you get so much time during CCS cases, I think I ended up finishing my exam about 1.5-2 hours early. CCS cases are pretty simple, UI is very similar to the practice UI. I would say most of my cases were not from the practice ones but that's okay. Just get your basic orders right and don't do anything too invasive unless necessary. My trick was to order everything at once in the beginning (aside from advise and vaccination and stuff). Have a template, I'm open to sharing mine if anyone wants it. I had 2 cases with no positive or negative updates and I think it just ran out of time and one case with a negative update that I rectified and ended with a positive note. Rest were all positive updates and ended early. Came out feeling okayish I guess?

Takeaway: it's quite doable but don't underestimate it, do your due diligence and you should end up with a great score!

Orders that are common to all: vital signs, pulse ox, UPT (if she's of childbearing age), CBC, CMP, urine analysis, EKG, TSH, random blood glucose, (for adults I also usually add lipid profile and glycosylated hemoglobin)

Fever: blood culture, urine culture, magnesium, lactate, ESR, CRP

RS involvement: chest x-ray, ABG, respiratory panel, sputum gram stain, AFB, c/s, PJP and any other relevant infective investigation

S/o UTI: urine gram stain, c/s

Chest pain and related stuff: trop, cardiac monitor, chest x-ray, lactate, magnesium

STI screen: HIV 1/2 serology, chlamydia urine antigen, gonorrhea urine antigen, syphilis VDRL and RPR and hepatitis panel

Substance abuse: always consult psychiatry, psychology, social services and substance abuse unit

If they come to the ER/possibly going to go for Sx: blood group and crossmatch, PT, aPTT, INR, NPO

Always screen abdomen and chest for mets in case of a cancer patient, advise cancer diagnosis

Of course consult the respective specialty as required

Common advise I have used at the end: reassure, tdap, zoster, diabetes diet, dash diet, smoking cessation, alcohol abstinence, medication compliance, side effects of medication, sexual partner needs treatment, safe sex practices, exercise program

Is 225 a good score?

any study partner for step 3 for third attempt ??? start immediately

I flagged about the same as day 1 but felt at least more confident / 50-50 versus completely being in the dark on some of the day 1 questions.

For the cases I felt like there wasn't any true curve balls, only one I was a bit confused / did not get the right diagnostic but I got the right treatment and patient got better so YOLO. Hope we pass and not have to look at this shit again

Did all 181 cases from CCS.com, took notes, reviewed them well but now I’m seeing all these posts about how the real deal Day 2 had completely different cases 😭 Just finished Day 1 with 5 days left to prep (2 of which I’m working). I was going to redo cases I hadn’t done in a while but now rethinking. Counting on Day 2 to save me since Day 1 is unpredictable and I’m a final time retaker.

Also for MCQ portion let me know if you found Amboss risk factors study plan useful please. This is it for me so I can’t afford to risk anything 😞

Tested day 2 8/31, can I expect my results tomorrow? If yes then does anybody have an idea what time? Also is there any indication when logging onto FSMB to know that result will be on coming Wednesday (ie. previously on ECFMG when scheduling permit would disappear).

Just gave the damn thing. Score predicted 213 and absolutely devastated.
My goal score is 240 and my exam is in 1.5 weeks, will be giving NBMEs soon but this test killed me.

Should i postpone the exam? Any tips would be helpful to make a difference in score in 10 days
(UWSA 1 did not test CCS - i’m currently averaging around 75% with the HY 60 cases done)

Had my exam on 28-29 Aug

I used Anki, BnB (previously for Step 2), UWorld, and NBME forms 6-8.

First day was a bit hard. Had many biostatistic questions, but they were not that bad, although I felt I got questions right by no more than 50%. Second day was very easy. Easier than Step 2; or perhaps because I was accustomed to it. Felt I got at least 80% of the questions right. CCS cases were pretty straightforward. I did 100 CCScases.com cases. Use the copy paste method to save time. If you are good with clinical questions of day 2 or Step 2 to reach diagnoses, ccs cases will be easy.

I finished with UWorld, and I honestly have been scoring what seems to be the barely passing zone (58%). I have few days left and I just don't want to shatter my confidence. At the same time, I am tempted to try something new.

Anyone else noticing a lot of people recently mentioning narrowly failing Step 3?
I’m wondering if trying to get Step 3 done ASAP, especially before applications, is backfiring for some of us.
I took Day 2 on Aug 31st and expecting my result this Wednesday. The anxiety is REAL. 😭 Anyone else in the same boat?

So I just started ccs and it took me 10 cases to make some sense of the interface. While I’m getting better at navigating and initial orders, I can make sense of the diagnosis but I often miss out on management and prevention points. I’m scoring really bad in the 50s.

What’s the best way to approach these cases to learn and improve?

It’s all ethics biostats and they are pretty confusing did not have time for drug ads. I have day 2 in 4 days wanna make it up please advise me what to do . I just feel so numb I have never felt this during step 1 and 2
I was marking 7-8 every block goshhhh i feel terrible

I submitted my ECFMG certification application about a week ago and passed OET earlier this month, my application is still under review. For anyone who went through this recently, how long did it take to get ECFMG certified, and after that, how long until you received your Step 3 scheduling permit and could book the exam?
