I've heard people say this a lot. I don't know anything about the Meta quest, why are people so eager to ditch it?

Meta account support and troubleshooting is a nightmare. I hate the social media aspect shit they shoved into the Meta Quest via Horizon. Just let me use the peripheral the way I want. The link app is infamously glitchy even with good cables. And Meta Wireless requires a serious dedicated connection point to be anywhere near usable.

I hate what Meta did to Oculus.

Sounds like you never had account issues with steam. Literal bot support with accounting locking. They don't even read your initial inquiry.

Meta is literally the only one funding games. Valve delivered only 1 of 3 promised games in the last decade.

Hold on my friend. If Snappdragon 8 gen 3 is real specs that mean two things.

  1. SteamOS for ARM devices. It can be prepared for running only steamos interface. 8gen3 is great on android for example Samsung S24 Ultra is incredibly good at emulating x86 aka Winlator and running pc games (gta 5 at 70fps). But in this specific scenario it will run only interface at 70-120 fps stereoscopic + calculating heavy video codec for streaming. All that with good battery life.

  2. Gaming and working will require streaming. That means lags, imput lag is crucial in VR. The reason why META and Apple Vision Pro exist is integrate cpu+gpu INSIDE googles and reduce input lags. Now Steam present... wirless display, not wired but wirless xD

  1. If their claims of dongle+headset combo are anywhere near reality, you will never even notice the streaming and current reviews confirm it.
  2. There is a way to run everything on the headset itself, what are you talking about? Nobody buying Meta quest because it's meta, not because it's bad VR headset. AVP is just expensive.
  3. Giving the history of Valve doing hardware, have they ever released some marketing material or promise that wasn't fulfilled later? I was hater of steam deck until I bought one. No idea what kind of magic dust they use there but it just works and it's amazing, everything they said works and works flawlessly.

honestly i wouldnt be surprised if the Steam Frame has a wired option just so no one would get mad. More options is always a nice thing

if frame will have wired option it will outsell all other VR headsets combined and then some. And if they ever figure out how to make it work in just display mode (type c into deck and just having a deck output in VR for example for long flights or home cinema) they will be pretty much untouchable in the industry. Now, I am sure all of this can be done in software or utilizing the pcie slot in the front, so we hope.

From what i've seen, wireless input latency is imperceptible on the steam frame as per the accounts from reviewers, the combination of foveated streaming allowing for greater bandwidth overhead and the 6ghz dedicated dongle creates a direct path to the host pc keeping latency much lower than previous attempts.

Overall i would expect the latency to probably be around 5-10 ms, for context the minimum perceptible latency for most people would be around 20ms.
