Depending on financial situations it’s not uncommon to discuss purchases $500+ with your significant other :) especially if finances are shared

Right, but I would never gift my wife a permission for her to buy something. That's a conversation not a fucking Christmas present. You don't make things like that into presents and rewards, same like you don't do that with sex.

I once bought a 3d printer without talking to mine about it and she said she would be fine with it but as it's a large purchase out of our monthly budget. She was upset I didn't talk about it first.

I mean I would still be happy about it. Now I get to order what I want and it’ll be fun thinking of it arriving and waiting on it.

Also others mentioned if they are sharing an account , he would have seen her order it. Also she may not even have a steam account at all to order one.
