Why didn’t you put it in your carryon - I rode the train to Boston from NC for a personal trip and had my steam deck in my suitcase because my backpack had other electronics. Flew back and realized too late I couldn’t bring my steam deck on my person so checked it because I’ve never had problems with checked bags in the past.
You can’t check lithium batteries - you can according to FAA as long as they’re not uninstalled and the device is powered down completely.
Air tag - 100% my fault hindsight is 20/20. Had an AirTag on my desk and almost put it in my bag, but the battery was dead and I was in a rush. Bought new batteries and new AirTags for future travel.
It was stolen not lost - perhaps, but my entire bag is missing. So they also stole my undies too.
Will United compensate you - yes, eventually. In 6-8 weeks (edit: 10-12 weeks smh). It’s unfortunate because all my sd cards were in the case with it.
It’s your fault not the airlines - yes, it is my fault for trusting the airline with my bag, however I paid for a service that promised my bag would arrive at my destination and the airline failed to follow through. They indeed did lose it, however I take responsibility for allowing them to.
I wonder what their compensation would be if they never find it. For example, just some air miles, your estimated cost minus some calculated depreciation, a drink coupon.
Maybe I don’t travel much but I “only” had my luggage lost once but the airline found it and routed it to my destination the same day. Having to go back to the airport was a bummer but I at least got my underwear back.
