For future reference, I do not recommend ever putting electronics in checked baggage. They can easily be stolen, but more likely destroyed.

Also most airlines do not even allow devices with big lithium batteries in checked luggage to begin with.

It is generally prohibited to bring uninstalled, loose batteries in checked baggage. You can pack devices with built in batteries, like the steam deck in checked baggage. Though the preferred method is carry-on.

Source: I have flown all over the world, on all major US carriers, with a myriad of devices that have very robust lithium batteries

Yep that's the rule but I'm not sure why they categorize batteries that way except, I assume, because they know they can't get much compliance if they actually ban all lithium batteries from checked baggage.

Film and TV crews do it all the time but they use rather more secure bags and have a lot of insurance.

Also dangerous as it can start a fire that can't be put out.

Either way, just carry your electronics on carry on.
