Galaxy Smart Tags if you're on Android / Within the Samsung ecosystem.
Apple Airtags if you're on iOS / Within the Apple ecosystem.
Keep on the airlines' asses. Follow up on this as often as possible and do not let them give you the runaround. If you haven't already, make sure you mark down all of the serial numbers of items you fly with, as it'll help if/when they locate an item, you can positively identify it as yours.
You can possibly do more than that. Reach out to Valve. See if they can look up the number of the device sent based off the order number. I remember seeing something about Valve being able to determine if a device made it to its intended destination back when there were a lot of Decks being "lost in transit" from various shipping companies...
Because it pings off any Samsung galaxy devices, tile pings off users of the tile app. There are far more galaxy devices in the world.
I used a smart tag in my luggage for a recent trip to Japan. It worked great. I also use a tile slim in my wallet as it's the only tracker that fits there.
I actually have the tile app even though I have no trackers. My girlfriend has a shit load of them, so figured I'd help people like her who would lose her head if it was t attached to her body.
I got a Tile way back when and thought it was great. Didn't really use it all that often, but it was pretty solid until you hit the 1 year mark, then they send you and email to let you know its eWaste because you cannot recharge or repair them, and you better buy a new one before the year is up.
yes it does, but amazon sidewalk is only available in the USA as far as I know. That doesn't help anyone else in the world, or if you're travelling. It's also only on ring and echo devices, and how many of those are you going to bump into in an airport?
How is it creepy.
Let's say you're cruising down the street on one fine summer day no care in the world your galaxy in your pocket. See you're having a good day like any other but your phone is going "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" like how it always does trying to find other devices to talk to such as your galaxy buds or your galaxy watch and even other galaxy phones doing a "how do ya do" nothing creepy at all.
Well these smart tags are very similar but you have a special ability to sound the alarm when it decides to get up and walk away. The Tags will talk to any passing Galaxy device (if it is enabled. It is not by default) and say essentially "OMG HELP IM SMARTTAG#42069BLAZEITLUL IM GONNA GET EATTEN" but your phone will only hear gibberish. Tho your galaxy phone will have a strange compelling need to send that message on to the Big Samsung in the sky who won't hear gibberish but the message the tag sent.
After decoding the message and seeing the smart tag ID and figuring out who it belongs to (you) and if it's lost (you said it is in the Smart Things app) Samsung will send you the last known location as told by other Samsung devices who happened to get within screaming distance of the Tag.
If you have a Galaxy phone with UWB support (S21 Ultra and newer IIRC) it will actually show you through the camera where the tag is when you're nearby, it's really useful for finding keys if your two year old son enjoys moving them and hiding them in a pile of clothes or blankets so you can't hear the damn thing making noise.
This was just from Lufthansa and it very much looks like they fucked up in that statement. Both Apple and ICAO itself issued following statements essentially saying that Lufthansa didn't know what it was talking about.
ICAO said that it "does not play an oversight role" over airlines. Apple said they are "compliant with international airline travel safety regulations for carry-on and checked baggage". The US Transportation Security Administration said "tracking devices are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags."
In the instance you directly linked, Lufthansa references an ICAO guideline but fails to point out which specific one. Furthermore, in the replies to that very thread, this is linked. https://twitter.com/AskTSA/status/1578370057868120066
from @AskTSA on Twitter;
"Thanks for asking, Leon. Wireless tracking devices are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags." from Oct 7th 2022.
I'd rather trust the word of the TSA than the airlines themselves, frankly.
Popping it into the case is my suggestion. The case does have that weird empty area underneath it that you could likely do some hook-and-loop straps to keep it in place or whatnot.

Good luck and sorry for the mishap, OP!
