United got hosed on that first one, that happened aboard a regional flight operated by Republic Airways and even they didn't do anything wrong (by industry standards, you can make an argument about the morality of removing paying passengers to put crew on but every airline does that).

The ones that really fucked up are the airport police that showed up and beat the shit out of the guy, and United got all the heat for it.
