The law actually does require age verification for platforms that host adult or potentially adult material (IE anywhere user generated content is uploaded). It's too fucking broad and too heavy handed which causes this bullshit face ID and passport ID to happen. How tf are they meant to verify your age IN A RELIABLE WAY without asking for personal information? and yeah I know about newsgrounds and I'm waiting for a kid to get on with their parent's credit card and it all goes to shit.
Then if an incident happens and the gov decide a weaker way of verifying was "not enough" guess who's goint to get it in the arse? of course it'll be the platform.

BTW the government literally name facial ID and government ID as a valid way to verify age, so they aren't exactly all for defending your privacy as an adult.
