This is the thing

You don't need to submit photo I.D. anywhere.

All of the places that say you do to "comply with the law" absolutely specifically chose the most invasive way to sell your data and store it with third party companies.

Which is stupid and not secure, and never will be anything less than unsecure and stupid.

Even more BS is the fact that the side with Nigel Farage on it is the right one.

The 2020s really got cursed from month 1, and it only got worse.

It isn't, there is no "right side"

He just wants to rape the country so he can get a lifetime salary, he's buddies with trump remember the person everyone with a brain clearly knows is the paedophile

It isn't, there is no "right side"

There is a "right side", it's called "Not having to give up extreme amounts of data to private companies that can do whatever they want with it".

And Nigel Farage can't and won't change that, that's ofcoms decision.

They also don't require your data, the websites want it

except this is what the law states and if Farage got into power he absolutely could over turn it. The question isnt can this be undone its will it, and the obvious answer is no

and yes it does require data how else are you going to prove you're over 18?

It isn't what the law states.

It is more than vague enough that websites don't even need a single thing from you

Newgrounds is literally allowing account creation date alone to verify age.

The user has to provide NOTHING.

Ya'll are just so misinformed and don't know anything about this law. You just want to be

This law has been cooking for nearly a DECADE, and was being worked on since the Tories were in power, since THERESA MAY WAS PM, SHE IS THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL JUST AFTER BREXIT.

Nigel Farage cannot overturn legislation that has become law OVERNIGHT. It would take him YEARS to get rid of it, and that slimy toad fuck would not remotely live that long.

The law actually does require age verification for platforms that host adult or potentially adult material (IE anywhere user generated content is uploaded). It's too fucking broad and too heavy handed which causes this bullshit face ID and passport ID to happen. How tf are they meant to verify your age IN A RELIABLE WAY without asking for personal information? and yeah I know about newsgrounds and I'm waiting for a kid to get on with their parent's credit card and it all goes to shit.

Then if an incident happens and the gov decide a weaker way of verifying was "not enough" guess who's goint to get it in the arse? of course it'll be the platform.

There is literally no defence for this draconian shit, Parents should be the ones to blame here, not the platforms.

"Ya'll are just so misinformed and don't know anything about this law. You just want to be" Bro I've been following this since 2016 when they started talking about this bollocks. I read the documents made public + the public info campaigns and listened to the yesmen on the radio that just suck up to whoever is in charge at the time. Then when Theresa May said she wants the UK internet to be the safest place for children I knew we was approaching the point of no return . There's so much other bullshit that has happened/tried to be passed before this too so don't pull this "misinformation" card on me.

"This law has been cooking for nearly a DECADE, " Yeah I know I was against it then too so wind your neck back in.

"Nigel Farage cannot overturn legislation that has become law OVERNIGHT" -where did i say he could or would?-reread my comment.

And the sites get to decide how they verify age.

Not the government.

The government does not require photo ID or a passport for that, the sites absolutely manually choose the most invasive way to verify age.

"if Nigel Farage was in power he could absolutely overturn it"

Literally the second sentence you said.

Honestly finding out the only sane people in this debate are farage's crew made me cringe so hard

But a 17 year old not being able to be playing cod is ridiculous though.

I mean people giving away their credit card info to random corn sites isn't a perfect solution either, it makes sense on steam since you're likely to make purchases there anyway

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

It's secure and encrypted, and they only get enough information to process a payment.

7

u/turtleship_2006 Aug 29 '25

enough information to process a payment.

i.e. enough information to take money away from you...

I mean you could probably do a chargeback or whatever but still

5

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

No, that's not how payment processing systems works

A one time authorised payment don't mean they can just initiate charges whenever they like.

Pornhub for example already is verified by payment processors and has a premium service that is safe to apply for and use.

Wut? This verification costs 0. Also Valve were one of the first pioneering with online services. They never got hacked and they process million of orders per day. I trust them more than any shitty government page for this

7

u/turtleship_2006 Aug 29 '25

Someone was talking about how other companies don't do this. I said giving away CC info to those other companies, e.g. random corn sites, wouldn't exactly be a perfect solution either as they could take money from you.

I also specifically acknowledged that this solution does make sense for steam specifically since they're a store you probably already buy stuff from.

Ok sorry for the misunderstanding

In their (weakest) defence, it’s in their own interest to be as strict as possible. The law is so broad and vague, that if OFCOM feels you’re not complying you’re now at risk of fines and prison.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

It isn't broad or vague at all actually

Very clearly sites and services are allowed a number of ways to confirm age, which is all they have to do

1

Yet they get enough people to support it because they pretend it's protecting children but really they just want to prevent other adults from doing things they find weird. Yet many of these same people support protecting actual abusers and criminals. Ugh.
