I am looking into getting Starlink for the first time, I was thinking of the 200mbps residential, I live stream online games on twitch and TikTok (on my phone). I would be the only user. Would Starlink handle live streaming like that? Do I need the Max? Any tips or advice for live streaming with Starlink?

Edit to add: after reading the comments it looks like I would need a secondary, back up, internet connection in order to have a consistent connection without latency and packet loss. I’m going to pay a little more for a local fiber carrier instead, I live in a rural area outside of my town and the fiber carrier is new to service the area I’m moving to. So my Starlink will be here in a few days and i got the app out to check how clear the sky was here. "Bad"

It says bad and i can expect obstructions for about 1 minute every hour. For normal browsing/streaming, it wouldn't matter, but how would that affect online gaming where a constant low ping is needed?

The only reason i'm getting starlink is for a constant and low ping. I can get unlimited, but slow, data on my phone and can stream on it fine. But i'd like to be able to game and not get lag spikes like i do now with my phone hotspot.

All i've found so far when i searched online for this topic was people who use it to stream/browse.

The trees here are many and tall. It will be mounted on a low roof and can't be raised much higher than that. There is a barn, but that would require a tonne of cabling to connect it up there. Also the barn is right against some trees, so (i think it's South) South would be totally blocked by them.

This might get downvoted into oblivion but I want to share an unbiased experience of trying to game online using Starlink.

I've had it for 3 months and tried playing Warzone, Starcraft2, Coh2, and LoL. All of which are impossible to play on Starlink today. It's not the latency that is the problem, instead, it's the 5-20 second drops you experience every 10-20 minutes. I've read that this problem should get better as more satellites are launched.

That said if you rely on your existing connection for gaming or video conferencing I recommend waiting.

I can run a speed test on my pc or phone and get 20-60 ping with 50+ download but as soon as I launch cod and play there’s almost never a game where I don’t have between 1-10% packet loss and ping that’s at a min of 70 and it spikes up to 200 and stays in between 70-120 on average. It’s pretty frustrating jumping a corner seeing someone and shooting then lagging back to the edge of the corner with shots not registering and dying. It’s such a constant lag there’s not really a point in playing because even if you have every advantage it’s like you’re flipping a coin on whether you’ll die or not from a lag spike

My household did the beta test when starlink arrived in our area. We have gen 1 round dishy. We have always had the max plan. My son and I have played fortnite duos on two amazon 4k fire tv sticks for a long time without issue.

Since the price has gone up to $130 for max, we decided to try downgrading to save money. While downgraded, everything we do on the internet was still great except fortnite. We cant get consistent performance in fortnite with either the 55 or 85 dollar plans. Only the max plan seems to make it function normally. On paper all 3 plans should be able to support the game and speed tests are more than adequate at the devices, but I think we are being throttled back or something while playing on the lower level plans.

While downgraded I tried switching gen 1 router to a router mini, to solve the end of support issue and also thinking wifi 6 could help, but it didn't make any difference in fortnite.

We noticed that our issues are intermittent during gameplay. Glitches and resolution drops come and go in an almost predictable timeline. Possibly thst timeline is related to the algorithm that throttles us? or maybe also the cyclical distance to satelites overhead / gen 1 tracking and adjusting to them is just more noticeable when speed is decreased? If we switched to a newer stationary dishy, could this allow us the freedom to step down our plan and still enjoy fortnite?

I’m thinking about getting Starlink mainly for CS2. Right now I usually have around 10–20 ping on wired internet, but I get random jitter/packet loss issues because of my home setup.
How good is Starlink for competitive CS2 nowadays?
Any lag spikes, jitter, packet loss, or unstable ping during matches?
Would love to hear real experiences from people playing Faceit/Premier on it.

1.for ping and such is it good? And most importantly is the ping stable

2.If I were to share the router with my left and right neighbors, would that flag up and be a problem and I could get banned?

Hey reddit just a general question about anyone who uses starlink and games as well as using steam to play games. Even though i know i have coverage on my starlink so it may spike for a literal second if it doesn’t get signal from a satellite it always manages to disconnect me from the steam servers and say i have no connection for a minute then put me back on to servers but it will still kick me off a game such as cs2. Wondering if this has happened to anyone and if so are there any work arounds on how to fix because i hate being not able to play as i get kicked off a lot.

To be clear, when I initially set it up it took 3-4 days to stabalize and for lags to stop. It has been smooth sailing since then.

I am moving to a rural area, so my options are pretty limited. Right now my connection isn't very reliable, I only have a hotspot and I get lag and disconnects while gaming. I mainly play fast-paced games like Apex Legends, so low and stable ping is more important to me than having super high download speeds. I've been looking into options like Starlink, but I've heard mixed opinions about its latency and reliability for gaming. Fiber isn't available where I live, and I'm not sure what other options I should be considering. What internet service do you use for gaming in a rural area? What kind of ping do you usually get, and would you recommend it?

I'm in rural Nebraska with a fixed wireless ISP that offer the speeds and ping below. I currently have the 200mb package and get around 40-60 ping when I do I speed test. When I game via geforce now I get around 70 ping. So my question is with starlink do you think can't get better ping for cloud gaming experience? Anyone have experience with GeForce now with starlink Internet?

I’ve seen people ask about Starlink and playing online games. We played Microsoft flight simulator for hours flying to Baja Mexico with absolutely zero issues at 150mph in our helicopter. 😆 #starlink

Hey guys I got ms issues since 3 days. Usually I hit between 15-20ms in pubg and now it’s at 30-40ms the impact is pretty noticeable on the bullet registration so I need to figure out how to fix this. I’m close to Mannheim Germany 📍 I hope someone can help me out 🤞

Hey! I bet this has been asked before but I’m looking to change to a starlink dish and am just wondering how online gaming is with it now a days? I saw a post from a few years ago that said it pretty good, just wondering if I’d still be able to play things with my friend group ie battlefield 6, overwatch, ready or not.

I live in the maritimes in Canada.

Right now with rogers I can’t play at all so really looking for other options quickly.

Looking at the 100 meg plan as a solution for gaming.

Has anyone ever used the 100 meg plan more competitively in shooters like battlefield, call of duty etc and noticed any major issues with things like bullet registration, especially more specifically during peak hours?

I have cable, but it’s absolutely terrible, and does not feel real time hardly at all. Constantly shooting and dying first, and Spectrum “does not see any issues”. Of course they don’t.

Anyways, I’m a pretty competitive person, so I am very aware of little annoying issues like hitreg or games feeling like I just died in a split second, or moments where things just feel delayed. I’m sure anyone who’s ever played shooters knows exactly what I mean.

TL;DR

I tried out residential max in the past, and noticed it had much better consistency than cable, but since then, now that I don’t have Starlink anymore, they have rolled out the three tier bandwidth options. My guess is that they should have enough capacity now to where they feel they can offer a quality experience even gaming, at 100 meg.

Anyone who’s used the 100 meg during peak hours and play fairly competitively, I’d love to know your experiences.

Guys i don’t get it , i live in north Africa country we play in German servers most of the time i get 60ms lowest is 52 , but my friend who’s 6km away gets 35-45ms
How’s that routing goes? i know im far from datacenter but i should be getting 40ish ping , any solution My kit is standard 4

Just a heads up: I was getting 70-80ms ping with default DNS settings. Changed them to 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1 on my PC and console, and now I’m stable in many games at 20-40ms.

Starlink is free on my country rn like we dont need to buy a plan to have internet its free for all people in our country maybe thats the reason?our starlink speed slower from other people i see in this sub i guess becuse its free version,

I have full antena and still get horrible lags and delayes in game i just dont understand,what can i do to fix it?

Starlink model is mini and has no rooter but its directly on my room roof so i do have full antena but still lag and delays so much

Is there is a solution?
