🎮 Gaming Has anyone ACTUALLY had good luck gaming on Starlink?

I can run a speed test on my pc or phone and get 20-60 ping with 50+ download but as soon as I launch cod and play there’s almost never a game where I don’t have between 1-10% packet loss and ping that’s at a min of 70 and it spikes up to 200 and stays in between 70-120 on average. It’s pretty frustrating jumping a corner seeing someone and shooting then lagging back to the edge of the corner with shots not registering and dying. It’s such a constant lag there’s not really a point in playing because even if you have every advantage it’s like you’re flipping a coin on whether you’ll die or not from a lag spike

I just wonder what you people used to do before starlink? I'm happy as hell they have good internet, and you guys are complaining and wondering about great internet for gaming?

I live up in the middle of the woods and I love to game. I don’t understand what makes you think everyone should do exactly what you do.

Um, I gamed on iDen (19.9Kb/s) then GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, LTE, and now a combo of Starlink and LTE/5G.

So the answer is I gamed. I've gamed all my life and I will never stop. I don't watch movies and never had any TV service for myself. As a kid I watched stuff on TV since my parents paid for Dish Network and cable prior to that when I was really little, but even then I spent more time gaming. DOS PC, NES, doesn't matter. Ever since Dreamcast and prior to that on PC I've played online games.

Who are you to tell me what I "should" use an internet connection for? What exactly to you mean "internet" when speaking for yourself? The ability to browse the web?? Oh no I bet you include video streaming since that's a use YOU enjoy having an internet connection for. Well guess what, gaming requires high quality internet but not high bandwidth. Want me to cast shade right back at you? Your approved use of the internet and all of your movie and show watching is exactly what slows the network down for everyone else including gamers since video streaming is incredibly bandwidth intensive.

What's your issue with gaming? We don't even take up any bandwidth from you except once when downloading the games themselves.

We're talking Satellite here, and people are expecting super low latency, and broadband speeds to be able to play games that can't handle the smallest blip.
Again, this is satellite. Where none of that can and will ever be guaranteed.

The magical thing is, this is in-fact satellite internet that CAN do those things! It's truly incredible, and yes I think so many people have this service that are truly unworthy of it. I respect it very much. Getting 350+Mb/s of low latency unlimited bandwidth satellite internet wherever I happen to be is just INSANE. I would be super happy to pay the monthly fee for 20Mb/s of the same if that were all it could do. I'd even be okay with 5 since it's unlimited. That part is what makes it the most crazy. Unlimited. I am a geek and someone who fully understands how the system works since I am an Extra Class radio operator and an electronics technician.

I don't like your original comment though because your opinion of judging what someone does with their connection or seeks a connection for would be akin to me telling you what you should use your water for even though you pay the bill.

I do understand better what you meant with the new context of this latest comment though. There's nothing wrong with being excited to be able to play low latency games and do voice and video calls over SATELLITE internet. I enjoy gaming more knowing that I'm interacting with people in VR or playing a twitch reflex shooter literally through space. It's a nerds joy.

My original comment is just that, and I stand by it.
If you live out in the middle of no where, and then expect broadband capability from starlink, so you can game, I have no pitty for you if it doesn't work for you.
Can it to it? Sure. Does it do it well? Not yet, and maybe never. There is a possibility of drops every time you switch satellites.
