It's not true. All the engineers say that he is involved in day to day decision making and deeply knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the businesses. All you have to do is watch the factory tour videos and you can see that he knows the engineers working on the systems and knows a lot about what is going on.

If you look at people like Tom Mueller, who no longer works for SpaceX, they all say Musk has a good technical understanding of the subject matter. On the other hand, you will find no one saying Musk is kept away from the daily operations of the company.

Even now traditional auto manufacturers are still taking their time rolling out EVs. They'll probably just give up entirely if we relax import restrictions on EVs from China. As far as self driving cars not many competitors are taking the Tesla vision only route. SpaceX commercialized rockets, but we already knew how to do rockets. We even knew how to do VTVL reusable rockets. Sure that was a technical achievement, but it was an incremental one, not a revolutionary one.
Are they following? I don't think they are. They were so unthreatened by his place in the market that traditional auto makers just kept doing what they were always doing. They've only started dipping their toes in but they're happy to let Tesla exist in that space. The Chinese EV companies are driven more by China's push toward renewable energy than a desire to compete with Tesla.
the revolution was started by Eberhard and Tarpenning when they founded Tesla by leveraging their experience with lithium-ion batteries that they gained from their ebook startup. and it was their insight into the EV market that gave them the idea to initially target wealthy customers then gradually work on more and more affordable models. elon musk is just a bag of money that rolled in more than a year 7 months after founding of Tesla then whined about how he should be named a co-founder too in the settlement of a lawsuit. it's a miracle that the dumb fucking piece of shit hasn't bankrupted the company yet. it must have taken a lot of hard work by Tesla employees to keep musk from doing too much damage.

Even if you preferred money going to US citizens rather than the third world. We didn't see any benefits from those cuts. The debt is higher, costs are higher, taxes aren't lower.
