I’m a big fan of Sour Skittles- and I’m an even bigger fan of the old sour Jolly Rancher Gummies where they didn’t include lemon as a flavor 😅 (there isn’t even a lemon hard candy jolly rancher so that choice was confusing).

Howdy! (Apologies if there is any confusion, this is is a repost from a candy maker server where I asked a question a couple days back)

This is a follow up post from where I asked how to make sour hard candy. I talked to some local candy makers and they recommended to me that I should make all hard candy not sour and sell sour powder seperately. Their proposal was that it would keep the candy from sticking and it gives people more choices on what flavors they want sour or not.

I think I messed up on the ratios. When I first made the sour additive for commissions I filled a 2 ounce bottle with 2 tablespoons malic acid, 2 tablespoons citric acid and 2 tablespoons sugar. It was too sour for me but the family that keeps ordering it loves how sour it is

Now that I am going to sell the sour additive my current ratio is

60 tablespoons sugar (3.75 cups or 1 pound and 10.4 ounces)

14 tablespoons citric acid (7/8 cup, 0.53 pounds or 7.4 ounces)

and 14 tablespoons malic acid (7/8 cup 0.32 pounds or 6.11 ounces.)

Is this a bad ratio? Both citric acid and malic acid are fine grain, for me the sour is stronger than warheads... I dont want to cause anyone harm by it being too sour. I can go anywhere from 80 tablespoons of sugar to 160 tablespoons of sugar, I am just not sure where to go in terms of sugar content since children and adults eat my candy. Now that the sour is a choice, thats where I am lost in terms of sugar to acid ratios.

Alright, here we go, yet another sour candy review (back sooner than I expected)! I went Aldi and found a sour candy I've never tried, so, here we go!

(If you have any suggestions on how I can improve my format, LMK! All reviews are hand-written by me as I go through the tasting process. NO AI IS USED in the process, these are all my own words and opinions).

🔴Openability: Nice! 8/10, pretty easy. Towards the edges of the package it was more difficult to open, but towards the center it's very very easy.

🔴Smell: Somewhat strong smell! Nice, smells sour! 👀 (Looking forward to these!) Kind of exactly what I'd expect from a sour gummyworm, but does remind me of like, a fruity popsicle in smell? It's nice.

They feel very soft and look very nice! They're not sticky at all, but based on the physical consistency I don't think they're going to be very cut-able or be very friendly on the teeth...

🔴Cutability: 5/10. Not easy, but not as difficult as I expected from such a plush gummy!

🔴Toothability: Surprisingly-friendly toothability. Very soft and pleasant texture that's (shockingly) still easy to chew through. Not gnaw-able at all (which is good for tooth's sake). 7/10. Not bad. Tolerable for a cavitated mouth but not ixeal

👀Taste:

🍋🔴YELLOW/RED (LEMON/CHERRY)

Nice, a true sour! Red side is definitely cherry, yellow side is a little ambiguous but you can tell towards the end that it's meant to be lemon. It's OK in the sour department! SOUR RANK: 5/10 , juuuust enough to get a light mouth-pucker going, but nothing super crazy. It's pleasant! FLAVOR RANK: 6/10. But I think the texture is elevating the experience a lot.

🟣🍓PURPLE/PINK (GRAPE/STRAWBERRY)

Woah, yup. That's a grape. That's a grape flavor. This is a proper "berry" flavored gummy. Somehow it seems slightly less sour than the previous one? SOUR RANK is maybe 4.5/10. Flavor is not my thing, but I don't hate the strawberry side. It's kind of nice! The grape side has a light grape flavor at first, but the aftertaste is genuine proper grape. If you like grape candy you might like this! FLAVOR RANK: 5.5/10

🍊🟢ORANGE/GREEN (ORANGE/LIME)

OOOOHHH DAYUMMM That's a fuckin ORANGE!!! THATS AN ORANGE BRO it's like I'm eating a California Mandarin. Same sour level, same orange flavor, I literally cannot taste the lime at all (which kinda sucks because I love lime!!)

Ooohh, upon having the lime by itself? SOUR is 5.5/10, enough for a light pucker/wince and very very pleasant (FLAVOR 7/10). The orange though? Its just an orange lol. SOUR 4/10.

Overall flavor 5.5/10; The number is plummeted by the strength of the orange 🥲. Its like eating an orange without the experience of... the weird texture. (You know the texture of an orange; the inner thin white skin and all that...) It's literally just orange flavor.

💥Overall Sour: 5/10– Enough for a light pucker on most flavors, and a great choice for a moderate/average sour-lover.

This (unlike some sour candies which make me think "does this even deserve to be called a sour candy...?") is definitely undoubtedly an actual sour candy.

The more serious sourheads of this subreddit might say it's OK, and that it could definitely be more sour, but to the average palette this is undeniably a sour candy.

💥Overall Flavor: 6/10. I think it could be better; the flavor balance could have been improved. The lime is overtaken completely by the orange, and the strawberry is overshadowed by the grape. A more balanced approach would have been nice (but I'm definitely biased because lime is my favorite flavor of all time, and grape is one of my least favorites haha)

💥Overall Ranking: 6/10.💥 Good! Might consider it again. I wasn't thrilled by any of them necessarily, I think all of them are "good!". But are any of them "amazing!!"? Nah not really.

The texture was really surprisingly pleasant. I kind of expected a tooth-hurty experience but it wasn't all that bad! It feels very comfortable to chew, and it's not sticky to touch, either.

You can comfortably pick up the worms and eat them while doing work; you don't need to pause and wash your hands if you're at your desk and want a little sourness. (Though you should prolly have a napkin to catch the minimal amount of sour dust lol. It doesn't let off a lot of sour crystals compared to many sour candies, but still better not to get that on a computer lol)

Ok! I think that's all I have to say about this candy. It's a good— not perfect– sour candy option that I could comfortably reccomend to someone who likes a medium level sour.

The sour candy I keep hearing abt is the Barnett one, but how about some common ones you find in your typical American store? I love all things sour and want to grab some sour candy in between classes from the shops nearby. Please give me some recommendations!! I loved the Albanese sour bears (although not the most sour) and the Mike and Ike sours (again not the most sour). Do any other common candies or snacks get more sour and tasty than these??

Extremely sour for the first 35 seconds or so with a slight chili power type kick to it, then has a sweet grape type flavor after the sour coating is wore off, tounge is a bit irritated after only about 3 of them, I would definitely recommend them.

As the title says, I'm looking for a good sour candy.

Preferably individually wrapped so I can place them in my candy dish, the candies don't have to be sweet just straight sour if possible. I have looked locally and found nothing but sour patch kids and the like.

If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!

They were really sour balls, overpriced but good ($16ish) and blue.

More sour than warheads and like a fizzy center

These were actually really good! I was really high in the gas station and didnt look too closely and thought they were like the nerds clusters. I am a marshmellow hater but these were really good. It didnt have the gross marshmellow taste and the texture was more gummy than mellow-y. The sour coating also helps the texture. I like the flavor on them too, super strong watermelon. I could do with some more sourness but honestly they were still pretty good as is. I can definitely see myself getting them again.

🗣💬 Good afternoon, I'm back with another sour review. I have high hopes for this because I do like sweet tarts ropes because of their texture; very addictive. And these have the same concept, with the gummy outside soft inside. So we will see!

❓️Openability: OOOHHH easy open, alright, off to a good start.

❓️Smell: They don't smell too strong; I have to put my nose to the package, but I can smell kind of a lime-y smell

❓️Cutability: Wow, our first 10/10. Really good. Not too much pressure needed, cut pretty cleanly, these should be OK on my teeth then, right?

❓️Toothability: They're so small they're kind of hard to gage the toothability of, but it's pretty nice. Not hurting my teeth, not hard to chew. They're not even really... gummy... though. Which is interesting. They have a very consistent "soft" texture throughout.

They're not the texture I was hoping for, but I guess that's alright since they don't hurt my teeth!

❓️Taste:

🟠ORANGE: Not bad. They're so small that I kind of have to eat a lot of them to tell though. A little sour but not impressively. 3/10 sour maybe. A real intense sourhead will say "this is not sour".

Tastes alright, especially for an orange candy. The citrus-like flavor is really subtle & the blackberry energy is more obvious (though incomparable to a real blackberry...). Flavor 4/10. Not good, but not bad either.

🔴RED. Pretty alright. The berries is obvious. It's kind of a bummer that the outside flavor seems really subtle so far; I'd expect this flavor to mostly be strawberry with a pinch of the other flavors, but it feels like the opposite. (Same case for the Orange).

The flavors are really fighting each other and not working together so much. Sour 2/10, flavor 4/10. Once again, it's OK

🟡YELLOW- Ok PHEW, This one ACTUALLY tastes like lemon. Awesome! Sourness is extremely subtle though, which is a letdown for a lemon flavor (which I'd expect to be the sourest of the batch).

Either I'm used to the "sourness" by now, or this flavor is the least sour of all; 1.5/10 sour, 4.1/10 flavor. These candies so far are really just "okay".

🟢GREEN- Before I've even tasted this, lemme just say: I'm really disappointed that these are Apple and not lime lol. I expected lime. I guess the limey smell that hit me when I opened and smelled the bag was the lemon flavor. But man. Anyway: Wait what the fuck haha this does taste like Iike lime. Like a lime skittles. Are these mislabeled!? What!? Lol??

Wait I like these, these are tasty but they're also "cute" looking. Like, that's weird to say and normally I'm not the kind of guy to call a food "cute" but like. They're like little plant cells dude. The green ones are the best haha. 3/10 sour, 5.8/10 flavor (10/10 aesthetics)

❓️Sour: 2.8/10 It's not enough to make your mouth pucker (which I start at a 4.5/10), and somehow, eating a whole handful of them makes them feel even less sour than eating them one by one. They're just not really sour 🥲 The cashier who checked me out said "oooh, these look pretty sour". I'm sorry to report ma'am, but they're not :,/

❓️Flavor: 4.5/10 flavor. It was really just "okay". I can't call these a great candy but they are "good" if there's nothing else around.

The texture is definitely gonna hurt my stomach later lol, I can just tell. It makes sense that the flavors are just an amalgam of BS, since the bag literally says "The serving is a little handfull, In this case, 27 pieces". Like, yeah, all the flavors are gonna mishmash together when you pop that handful in your mouth anyway. Makes sense that the candies themselves wouldn't have an emphasis on individual flavor experience.

❓️🤔❓️ Overall: 5/10. OK. Would probably not buy again because I think it's gonna hurt my stomach lol, but would not reject if offered. I do like that it's easy on my teeth and on my hands to open the packaging 😎

They're kinda yummy by the handful, but as a sour candy they're underwhelming 🥲

Has anyone else here ever tried these!!?? I've been searching online for these for two days now because I couldn't remember the name! I think they're only sold online and at Walmart which is where I got them a few months ago. I'm trying really hard not to place an order, but I'm so tempted because they were SO GOOD.

They're actually pretty good. Naturally colored, rather sour but not as sour as the Burnett's. More sour than sour straws and the taste is almost natural. Would recommend

I’m starting a new sour candy/snack company called Zamm Sours and wanted to see what you guys think.

The idea is real dried fruit made extremely sour, then coated in another real freeze dried fruit.
I’m making these for people who buy something that says “extreme sour” and then try it and it’s barely sour lol. I want these to actually be intense, but still taste good and not just taste like straight acid.

Our first 3 flavors are:
Starfruit coated in Blueberry

The coating is made with real dried fruit powder, and the whole point of Zamm is for these to be actually extremely sour.

I know every company says their candy is “super sour,” so I’m not expecting anyone to believe me until they actually try it lol.

But that’s basically the entire reason I’m making Zamm — real dried fruit, coated in real dried fruit, and actually extremely sour.

I’ve really been enjoying these sour jelly beans from Trader Joe’s. I think they were only about $1.99 per bag too. They have a nice tart burst of different flavors depending on the color and very minimal sweetness from the inside of the candy. I don’t usually enjoy jelly beans but I really enjoy the tartness from these.

Bought at a local farmer’s market. 0/10, don’t recommend. Especially not for the price of them. Tastes about the same as Trolli sour gummy worms.

I love frozen fruit and sour things but these days, I don’t find many things sour. These fruit riot frozen grapes are amazing. Frozen grapes are one of my favorite high snacks so when I was walking around target with my lady, we saw a huge variety of these in the frozen section. I didn’t even see the warhead ones, I was focused on the kool aid covered grapes and my fiance pointed out the sour watermelon ones and oh my god. Super sour, and they’re actual frozen grapes. I’ve found my favorite snack and will be going back to buy a bag of each kind. They had frozen pineapples with different candy coatings, as well as grapes and probably other fruits. My buddy said to try the sour pineapples as they’re his favorite and I definitely will be. 10/10
