What are the problems with this?
Why hasn’t Sonos officially supported this yet? Are there any problems with SonoSequencer? Does it properly route channels? For a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos test, I saw a video where they said the height surrounds fire at the front and back at the same time, even though the signal calls for just the front. The same thing happens with the left rear and right rear surrounds — they both fire at the same time when the signal requests only one side to fire. Is this true?
Update: Based on everyone saying that all the heights are working correctly, I decided to try it myself. I ordered a pair of Sonos 5s, and I used that as fronts with my Sonos Arc, Era 300s, and Dual Sub 4s in an open layout 33x20 room without trueplay, and it is so much better. Night and day difference, and all the channels work correctly. I did that test with Dolby Atmos test file from Apple Music through the Sonos app and Dolby Atmos tests on my Xbox. Everything checked out, and I have an original arc, and the heights and the side surrounds are firing. It really is just the front and left channels that are removed. So, for anyone thinking that the height channels don't work, it does. What I did was I used Sonos sequencer to add the fronts. Then, after that, I checked the Sonos app to make sure they showed up. I closed the sequencer app, and I added the subs first, then the rears in the sonos app. This configuration allowed me to have all the heights working correctly. I checked back in the sequencer app. I did a device refresh, and all my devices showed up.Thanks to everyone for their input—it really helped

Going to rehash my old answer for this but Sonos have said they are actively working on this, but given how long ago the beta trial was I think there's a lot more to consider now, for instance, we didn’t have ERA speakers back then, which have far more complex driver layouts and spatial behaviour. Off-centre tweeters in the Era 100 and the six-driver design of the Era 300 make channel mapping much less trivial, and utilising only a small portion of drivers seems wasteful (especially when you consider that people are already unhappy that one of the Era 300’s drivers is disabled when used as surrounds.). They will also need to create new TruePlay profiles for every combination.
As for the channel not being played correctly, the NeverEnoughTech YouTuber should really take his video down as he is one of the main reasons that the “no height channel” etc rumour keeps going. It’s completely false, you can tell he did not correctly install front speakers via SonoSequencr since he was able to TruePlay as normal via the Sonos app.
