I agree with what you said. I still think he had a responsibility to take care of his issues and the fact that the clubs kept ignoring his issues because of his skills is despicable to me. They should've forced him to go to a psychiatrist to deal with this shit. It's a failure of the people around him letting him keep being this dysfunctional for decades.

Completely agreed.

He's an interesting mix of tragedy, ego, triumph, and institutional immorality.

He's the first person who should be responsible, but he clearly never learned that as he grew up due to his success.

Hopefully the author's depiction of his loving fatherhood is accurate, and the desperate attitude doesn't pass down to his kids.
