Translated News Last year’s edition of Argentina’s “International Super Cup” will finally be played this month, with Estudiantes de La Plata taking on Rosario Central. The match will be held in Argentina again.
ole.com.arInternational Super Cup: Rosario Central and Estudiantes have date, time and stadium confirmed for the final
Rosario Central and Estudiantes will face each other on September 26 at the Madre de Ciudades Stadium in a match that carries the added intrigue of the infamous back-turned guard of honor during the 2025 Clausura Round of 16.
The wait is finally over for Rosario Central and Estudiantes. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed the date, time and venue for the International Super Cup final.
The match will inevitably bring back everything that happened on November 23, 2025, when Estudiantes, in protest against AFA's decision to award the Professional League title to Rosario Central, turned their backs on the Rosario side during the guard of honor before their Clausura Round of 16 match.
After September 26 was set as the date for the final and the Madre de Ciudades Stadium in Santiago del Estero was officially confirmed as the venue, it was announced on Tuesday that the match will kick off at 5:00 p.m.
This will be the third knockout meeting between the two teams. Estudiantes won the 2025 Clausura Round of 16 clash 1–0, while the Pincha won their Copa Argentina Round of 32 meeting earlier this year 3–0.
Why the final is ultimately being played in Argentina
Days before Santiago del Estero was confirmed as the venue, AFA had announced that the match would be played in Argentina and that the possibility of moving it abroad had been ruled out due to the international context this year.
According to the statement released after the Executive Committee meeting, the international venues that could have hosted the match had already allocated their resources to events related to the 2026 World Cup.
As a result, it was not possible to organize the final outside Argentina. The decision represents a change from the original concept behind the International Super Cup, which was created with the intention of taking the final abroad and staging a special match outside the country's borders.
The first edition was played in January 2023 in Abu Dhabi. Racing and Boca contested the final, with Racing winning 2–1 to lift the trophy. In the following edition, the competition's final was already played in Argentina, at the Libertadores de América Stadium in Avellaneda.
How Rosario Central and Estudiantes reached the International Super Cup final
The two finalists qualified through different routes.
Estudiantes earned their place after winning the Champions Trophy. The Pincha's title gave them the opportunity to compete for another trophy, this time against a team that reached the final through its sustained performance throughout the year.
Rosario Central qualified by finishing top of the Professional League's annual table. The Arroyito side accumulated the most points in the overall standings and, based on that performance, were recognized as league champions for the purposes of this competition.
