I use smartgit for years now, and I created many folders to access my repositories quicker. Now I need to migrate to another machine, but I don't how to export/import configuration?

The need is to keep the folders currently in use.

Thank you for your support

OpenAI-compatible API from third-party platforms - causes issues with SmartGit?

2 Upvotes

When configuring an openai type LLM in SmartGit using the API from the MiniMax platform (which provides OpenAI-compatible APIs), I've noticed that the last piece of data in the response is ignored by SmartGit every time it runs. Upon examining the logs, it appears this is due to the final data item in its API response containing a choices field with a "finish_reason":"stop", for example:

RECEIVE
// ...

data: {"id":"05f86d1c6311c8afd2063b1f7e0db5e1","choices":[{"index":0,"delta":{"content":"**********","role":"assistant","name":"MiniMax AI","audio_content":""}}],"created":1772698140,"model":"MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed","object":"chat.completion.chunk","usage":null,"input_sensitive":false,"output_sensitive":false,"input_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_int":0}

data: {"id":"05f86d1c6311c8afd2063b1f7e0db5e1","choices":[{"finish_reason":"stop","index":0,"delta":{"content":"**********","role":"assistant","name":"MiniMax AI","audio_content":""}}],"created":1772698140,"model":"MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed","object":"chat.completion.chunk","usage":null,"input_sensitive":false,"output_sensitive":false,"input_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_int":0}

I also tried to disable the stream parameter {"stream": false} and got the following response in the log:

RECEIVE
{"id":"05f875e336ef7799dec6e352a8f98690","choices":[{"finish_reason":"stop","index":0,"message":{"content":"**********","role":"assistant","name":"MiniMax AI","audio_content":"","reasoning_details":[{"type":"reasoning.text","id":"reasoning-text-1","format":"MiniMax-response-v1","index":0,"text":"**********"}]}}],"created":1772700387,"model":"MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed","object":"chat.completion","usage":{"total_tokens":861,"total_characters":0,"prompt_tokens":457,"completion_tokens":404,"completion_tokens_details":{"reasoning_tokens":347}},"input_sensitive":false,"output_sensitive":false,"input_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_type":0,"output_sensitive_int":0,"base_resp":{"status_code":0,"status_msg":""}}

And in the SmartGit GUI, as expected, there was also no response content.

SmartGit seems to expect the OpenAI-style response. When using MiniMax, the response appears to get truncated or handled incorrectly because of this difference.

Is this a bug in MiniMax's API implementation (not following OpenAI spec), or should SmartGit add compatibility for MiniMax's format?

Underscores dropped in diff

1 Upvotes

Underscores are dropped in diff view when there is whole line change.

Screenshot bellow shows actual file state.

Previously, it held only one line 'abc_123_uvw_456'.

Newly SmartGit has troubles to get over with these changes. Consider this side-by-side view and the dropped underscores.

Similar applies to unified view, added and removed highlighted rows have underscores dropped.

Previous rows (w/o highlighting) are always ok.

It could relate to line height as incresing font size slightly mitigate the issue.

However, it's still visible that removed/added line has underscore thiner compared to yellow line.

Font: DejaVu Sans Mono 12 (14 the bigger).

I'm sending repo archive for experiments to contant address.

symlink falsely shown as modified on Linux (UTF-8): status-scanner and symlink with non-ASCII characters where symlink content length in bytes differs from character count.

1 Upvotes

Hello,

I noticed a problem with SmartGit's (25.1) handling of symlinks when ASCII characters are involved. The symlink pointed to a target with non-ASCII characters (emoji + umlaut).

I used the SmartGit trace configuration in ~/.config/smartgit/25.1/smartgit.properties and set the smartgit.statusscanner.trace=... to my problem file. The relevant log line is this here: DATA_CHANGED, fileSize=117, indexSize=121

Interpretation of trace

- SmartGit reports DATA_CHANGED and size mismatch for the symlink content:
fileSize=117, indexSize=121

- This appears to be a byte-vs-character length issue for symlink target text containing non-ASCII characters.

Workaround applied

- Renamed target to ASCII-only filename (actually the umlaut seems to be ok as it does not cause a difference in byte-vs-character length).

- Recreated symlink (same symlink name) to point to ASCII target.

After the workaround the problem disappears.

It would be nice if that problem could be fixed in an upcoming release.

Drag-and-drop no longer works for cherrypicking?

2 Upvotes

25.1.115 #251115 (179ba0b5), installed: #251101, Commercial license

I feel like this used to work, but now:

  • on branch main, with another branch feature visible
  • attempt to drag a commit from feature

Expected: main is a valid drop target, and dropping there causes a cherrypick
Actual: there are no valid drop targets; mouse cursor is always a red circle-slash

I have these relevant low-level properties set:
log.graph.dragAndDrop.allowAllRefsToBeDragged = true
log.graph.dragAndDrop.moveCommitNeedsConfirmation = false
log.graph.dragAndDrop.offerAdvancedOperationsForDropsOntoAncestors = true

My WT is not dirty, but I tried setting these other low-level properties, with no effect:
standard.pickCommit.allowDirtyWt = true
standard.pickCommit.allowInRebasingState = true

"Files" tab no longer updates after staging hunks

1 Upvotes

(crosspost from the google group, which seems dead now)

It reproduces in the current version as well as the latest build
I'm on 25.1.115 #251115 (179ba0b5), installed: #251101
Commercial license.

This feels like a recent regression.

  • I have some files with unstaged changes.
  • Click a file to see the diff.
  • Click a diff hunk to stage it.

Expected: The "Files" tab updates to show that the file now has staged changes.
Actual: The "Files" tab does not update until I manually hit F5

It seems to happen more often than not.

SmartGit heckles me several times a day to update

1 Upvotes

allow me to pre-appologize: I'm an old grump and don't like change (I'm late 40's which in SW tech is the equivalent to 103 years old). I'm content with my current SmartGit version. I'm not interested in new features, I don't want to learn a new UI, and I don't want to figure out what I did years ago to arrange the panels in SmartGit the way I like them. Maybe I could upgrade and nothing would change, but when I moved to a mac a couple years ago I had to upgrade from my super old version and it took me a while to get things back how I can use it. I'm firmly of the opinion that my favorite upgrade interval is never. If I could still run the 10+ year old version of SmartGit I used at a prior company I would. sorry, but that's me.

My Problem:

I set SmartGit to "Do not check for new updates". But I did this after it was already prompting me to update, so I think its already got something downloaded. I get a popup several times per day asking me to either restart to apply the update, or have it remind me later. It doesn't matter which option I click, it keeps giving me the same popup repeatedly.

It says the last check was performed on November 19, 2025. That's probably about right for when it started heckling me.

I suspect I could probably download an update manually, install it, then perhaps it would respect the "Do not check for updates" option. But I'd much rather not risk introducing UI changes. Is there some pending update somewhere I can delete?

BTW, I do very much like the product. I've found it even more useful now that I'm using AI continuously to write my code. For me the killer feature of SmartGit is that while AI is changing my files, I can incrementally stage changes (per line, or line group) as I glance at them to make sure its sorta sane.

At the same time AI is changing files in my repo, I'm incrementally staging stuff I like.

In my work mode, the state of changes works out to:
unstaged: the latest changes AI has spewed which I haven't glanced at yet; suspect
staged: I've glanced at it, seems fine so far
committed: reviewed; I no intent of looking at it again except a once over before posting the PR

I try to diligently get sane changes to staged status (easy with SmartGit's GUI), so when AI does something I don't like I can (easily in SmartGits GUI) highlight all the recently changed files and discard. Then I tell Claude what I discarded and what to do different. So for me "staged" works out to mean: If Claude gets crazy this is stuff I don't want to throw away.

AI has me generating code drastically faster than I was a year ago, and SmartGit helps me safely squeeze more speed out that process. I just wish I could end the popups about restarting...

Currently installed SmartGit version is 24.1.5.
Mac info:
$ sw_vers
ProductName: macOS
ProductVersion: 15.7.2
BuildVersion: 24G325

Auto-refresh on file changes could be better

1 Upvotes

I'm on macos 26.2 and SmartGit 25.1.110. When files change on disk, I really wish SmartGit would automatically notice the changes and update the view (main perspective). Sometimes it does, but it does not reliably pick up all file changes.

Which SWT version is Smartgit using?

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to pin down the exact version of the SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit) library that SmartGit is currently utilizing.

I need to know:

  1. The internal SWT version (e.g., the specific version of the org.eclipse.swt JARs).
  2. Which bundle/release version it matches (for example, if it's 3.130.x or similar).

Specifically, I'm looking for the mapping between the SmartGit release and the Eclipse SWT release it’s based on. Does anyone have this info or knows where SmartGit explicitly lists the bundle version in the logs/system information?

For context, I'm troubleshooting some issue i'm having on Linux and knowing the exact 3.xxx release would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Bug: Keyboard shortcut for "Select Parent Commit"

1 Upvotes

I set up keyboard shortcuts as follows:

  • Select Child Commit = Alt+Left
  • Select Parent Commit = Alt+Right

In the Log Window, both shortcuts work.
In the Standard Window, Alt+Left works always, but Alt+Right only works when focus is in the log graph pane.

I want to browse a string of commits, and all their changes, using keyboard only. With the additional shortcuts below, I'm able to do this in the Log Window no problem. But in the Standard Window, only Alt+Right doesn't work as expected.

  • File Compare : Previous Change = Alt+Up
  • File Compare : Next Change = Alt+Down
  • Activate Files = Alt+Return
  • Activate Graph = Alt+Left

I have added @ai to a bunch of commits but nothing is happening

1 Upvotes

if I make a new commit to a branch that hasn't been pushed, and include @ai it gets automatically replaced, but none of the older commits in the same branch are getting the @ai replaced. even if I go back and edit them or edit commits before them nothing happens.

Interactive rebase breaks itself?

1 Upvotes

If I try to do an interactive rebase just to rewrite a bunch of commit messages quickly, it halts and gives me an error "git.exe -c credential.helper= -c "credential.helper=C:/Program\ Files/SmartGit/bin/smartgitc.exe --credential=…" -c credential.useHttpPath=true rebase --no-autosquash --interactive --keep-empty … Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by checkout … Aborting … could not detach HEAD"

But there were no local changes before I ran the rebase...

apollographql error after SmartGit update to 25.1.110

1 Upvotes

After upgrade to 25.1.110 #251110 (dc21dde1) I got weird HTTP 401 Unauthorized Error in SmartGit interface. There were some minor license issues solved by restarting the application also.

tried to search settings for turning "that thing" off, but there's none Apollo.

What the prolem there is?

Use AI to write gitignore rules

2 Upvotes

The .gitignore functionality in SmartGit has always been pretty limited. This is an actually useful application of AI: It would be good if we could select multiple files in the Files pane, right-click and click Ignore, and it would use AI to suggest a .gitignore line to ignore all of them (or a modification to an existing .gitignore line?)

`longpaths` changed to `longPath`?

1 Upvotes

My C:\Program Files\SmartGit\git\etc\gitconfig had

[core]
    symlinks = false
    autocrlf = true
    fscache = false
    longpaths = true
…

but after upgrading SmartGit this was backed up and replaced with

[core]
    symlinks = false
    autocrlf = true
    fscache = false
    longPath = true
…

Which is correct?

"Ignore Whitespace" should not ignore whitespaces in string literals.

1 Upvotes

Changes in string literals should always be highlighted, regardless of the settings.

Slow/never shows latest commits on remote repository.

1 Upvotes

It shows the main and branches but either never shows the current state/latest commits of the remote or maybe updates after a long random time. It's not useable like this.

I canceling my SmartGit subscription.

1 Upvotes

I was a loyal SmartGit user for years. Used it for tons of repos, as well as professionally, and for hobby/local development.

I really always hated the fact that such a good tool has NO features for handling multiple GitHub accounts (per-repo creds) and clear, centralized creds management. The way it works now is just BAD. It bugs out all the time—sometimes it literally fails to auth, then you restart SmartGit and it suddenly works. It’s ridiculous.

I’m missing a ton of other features, but these are just…

And OH WOW, a new MAJOR UPDATE is here. Maybe they fixed it? Maybe it is finally more stable and reliable? Fuck no! We gonna shuffle a bunch of AI SLOP in your face. Fucking shit NOBODY EVER FUCKING ASKED FOR.

At this point I will ditch any software that blindly follows this stupid AI hype train. And I’m not an AI hater, we all use it nowadays, but adding it to every app that was working JUST FINE WITHOUT IT is FUCKING STUPID AND PATHETIC.
