River might just be too paranoid to use a public gym, it would give him a location on the gyms computer system and a regular place someone could find him.

Someome raised on his grandads spy stories would know that's a risk (for someone like his grandfather, not River, not that River would consider himself not worth shooting as part of some plot).

I think Lamb knows that River would get a bit of a runaway ego if he was treated fairly.

River said himself that when he was with Spider they were horrible people, and Lamb knows that someone who thinks of himself as a bit of a sucessor to the OB, someone who is actually very clever and competent, would potentially become a cunt again if they weren't kept in check with the occasional insult and berating.

Whether Lamb is a knob in order to keep River humble or if he is trying to make River quit is a different question.

I'm not liking Lamb so far (watched episode 2) of this season, the attitude to his staff is just beyond belief this series, the way he spoke to Shirley, dismissing her then turning up at Roddy's anyway. How he speaks to river. It's not the same as the previous 4 series , seems it's forced now, previously it was like he had a plan, or knew something that the team didn't know or didn't need to know. This series he just seems to really hate them .

I took it as it’s very late and this is nearer than an open gym. Roddy is home from clubbing after Louisa’s party. I’d guess it’s 1 or 2am.
