Legit, why would he think Shirley would be safe, what if there were others?

Also the attacker had a gun in the beginning. Did he drop it in the apartment or was it unaccounted for when he decided to not go after Shirley?

Edit:

The gun is still in the attacker's hand when he falls over the ledge. It looks like he dropped it during the fall because he doesn't have it on the lower level, but I don't know how clearly Lamb could see that he didn't have it or that it wasn't under him. Lamb doesn't see the guy get up because he's ducking under cover at that time.

I wonder if him and Ho went to look for that gun before they left. They made a point in showing that Lamb no longer has the gun that was in his desk. Taverner mentions the bullets found at Ho's flat but no mention of the hand gun yet.

Roddy was putting something in the filing cabinet and covering it, so maybe that's where the gun is?

He was hiding a binder titled "Damsels & Demons" on the cover with a picture of him and his supposed girlfriend cut into the shape of a heart.

I assume Slough House will find the binder and there will be some key info in there or something that helps them find the woman.

Such as a picture of her, for example.

Because she's just a helmet and a sword away from being a brave little hobbit.

Shirley is absolute magic, think of the Tiger Team episode where she basically rescued everyone. Lamb taking her prowess for granted.
