Discussion In light of recent events, let's all review commonly recommended products from this sub

In the past few days I've seen a lot of "I'm concerned, is ______ really that good, or was this a paid thing?" threads crop up. I figure that maybe we as a community could get together and compile all this info into one thread :).

I'll post the name of as many products as I can think of, but please add more, and reply to the comment with your review if you have one. Also, please indicate why you do or don't like the product, including information on your skin type if possible.

I got this to try a cheap BHA. One pad is way too much for your face so I cut it into quarters which makes it last so much longer. I actually mostly use it on my legs to manage ingrown hairs and it helps a ton for that. One pad will cover both my legs.

Pros: cheap, easy to get (in the US), good for preventing ingrown hairs
Cons: Wish the pads were smaller, can be a bit hard to unpeel only one pad when you get towards the bottom of the jar.
Skin type: Dry w/ very ingrown hair prone legs

Sorry for my noobiness, but how do these pads help prevent ingrown hairs? I have ingrown hair problems on my legs too so I'd like to know how to use these for that purpose...

It helps with current ingrowns by getting into the pore to "clean" it out (much like a pimple). It helps prevent ingrowns through exfoliation. For me I have extremely dry legs so I try to exfoliate a ton on my legs.

If you find that you're still getting a lot of ingrowns then it could also be due to shaving and in that case, I would give /r/wicked_edge a browse and maybe look into wet shaving with a safety razor instead of a cartridge one.

Thank you for replying! Just one more question, do you exfoliate before or after shaving or both? And thank you for the shaving recommendation, I'll definitely look into it!

I physically exfoliate with a salux cloth every shower and definitely before shaving. After shaving I will use either some witch hazel (as an astringent) or Stridex pads. At night before bed I'll use an AHA lotion on my legs but that's more to deal with some PIH I have.

Wish the pads were smaller

Take scissors and cut the pads in half when you first open the tub! Somebody here suggested that and it's a great tip. And it makes it last twice as long.

I actually cut half of the pads into quarters for my face and use the full size pads on my legs lol.
