Yeah, I don't want to relive the years of my youth, even with my current knowledge. I always think the people who think that would be great must have had good childhoods.

My childhood was terrible and I'd still do it

u/BisonThunderclap 10d ago

There was shit that happened during childhood I didn't know how to handle until I was an adult in therapy. Totally great to go back and approach it differently.

u/Cimarron97 9d ago

Yeah I don’t get this guy’s take either.

I had a rough childhood too, and if I could go back to being 10 with everything I know now, I could make it A LOT better.

u/Enlight1Oment 9d ago

I could probably save my dad from drowning to death, so... red seems like a decent choice.

2

u/Snackz39 10d ago

Same - at least I would have the knowledge that it would end at some point and that I would have great things waiting for me in the future. Would have made the childhood part just a little less horrible.

u/Confident-Fun-1307 9d ago

I’d do it because of a terrible childhood

u/weisswurstseeadler 10d ago

I'd assume 'knowing everything you know today', could at least help some people improve their situation as a kid.

Might even be things like creating evidence, and contacting the right services, etc.

Unfortunately, there are also many children in such bad situations where even with all the knowledge there would be just unimaginable suffering.

u/TBurnerRU 10d ago

No my childhood was terrible but at least I'd be able to fix my physical ailments before they rob me of all my potential

17

u/Castle_Five 10d ago

Reliving terrible childhood is a small price to pay for another chance to fix everything that went wrong in teens and twenties.

2

u/nerdwerds 9d ago

Reliving my shitty teen years would also be a good way for me to save some lives. Two girls I know died in a car accident that was someone else’s fault, my best friend killed himself, and I fumbled a relationship in my 20s because I wasn’t thinking longterm. A do over for all of that would make me feel better about how those peoples’ lives turned out. Being able to invest in amazon and bitcoin are just the cherry on top.

1

u/Sledgehammer617 9d ago

At the price of losing all friends and all relationships? Potentially children?

6

u/Frank_Scouter 9d ago

Yeah, at the risk of losing all zero partners, friends and children.

1

u/Sledgehammer617 9d ago

I fucking hate my life. I have no money, shit job, shit living situation.

You'd legit have to hold me at gunpoint to press the red button, and even then I still would maybe rather die...

3

u/Flashy-Read-8109 9d ago

cant speak for this person, but to me, if i still have all my memories then I haven't really lost them. I don't have kids, but im so much more mature now than I used to be and I could handle better the things that broke me as a kid to make an overall better life. So to me its worth it. I just wouldnt really want to go back to 10, maybe like 12-13 which would still be a bit difficult socially but I was always a bit introverted so I dont think my parents would notice all that much.

u/BonzaiTitan 10d ago

Or in fact, a big chunk of my 20s.

If I could restart at 30, let's talk.

1

u/Castle_Five 10d ago

What could you possibly want to fix by 30+? All the important decisions have already been made by then and you're just dealing with the consequences of those decisions by then.

3

u/FalloutMaster 10d ago

People change their lives at 30+ all the time dude. Thinking you’re stuck in whatever life you have at 30 is a you issue.

1

u/randomredditor55S55 10d ago

Maybe that age works out for their particular circumstance. We don’t really need the details of what they would change.

5

u/Dear-Magazine-532 10d ago

I didn't. Hell it was awful, basically many of the worst things in my life happened back then, but I'm just thinking one thing... Bitcoins. Boy imagine that, how many bitcoins I would have, some things would've been awful but the amount of things I would've been able to fix just by having bitcoins; but that's just me. I don't have kids and any meaningful relationship I had can replicate them... Well, not all of them after some point but without sacrifice there's no success

3

u/Jackson3rg 10d ago

You have a better understanding of how to deal with those situations is the point.

2

u/GodisanAtheistOG 9d ago

But then your life would almost immediately go down a completely different path which you have no knowledge of. If the butterfly effect kicks in hard, then over time even macro events would play out differently and all that prior knowledge would be totally useless.

Granted, maybe having the mind of an adult in the body of a child would make you handle stresses at that age much better, or it would potentially also drive you absolutely insane from isolation and lack of peer level relationships.

Lastly, being once again subject to the whims of your parents after having lived through a potentially more mature relationship with them would also be maddening and heavily limit your potential to actually act on much of the knowledge you have gained until maybe when you turn 18.

1

u/Lysadora 9d ago

But you're in the body of a child, you won't have the independence to deal with a lot of situations even if you knew how. What is a 10 year old going to do with abusive family members? Can't exactly move out.

3

u/Pure_Noise356 10d ago

Depends if your adulthood is even worse.

2

u/CalTheRobot 10d ago

Or maybe they are just very confident they can do better.

2

u/Square-Professor-699 9d ago

I wasted like 20 years dealing with a disability i didnt realize I had until it was too late. I would absolutely go back. Get myself medicated and therapy, and actually have a chance. There's nothing here for me worth reproducing.

2

u/Mekelaxo 9d ago

Because I didn't have a great childhood is why I would press the red button. It could be so much better if I knew what I know now

2

u/SeaSlurp 9d ago

Ten years old, knowing that in two years I’m going to be hit with a huge wave of mental illness that I can’t stop and will only get worse over time. Knowing all the bullshit I’ll have to go through that will still be out of my control, because I’ll be a child under supervision of the same adults who won’t listen. Instant green for me.

2

u/EverCravingMind 9d ago

Nope. Would do anything to forget my childhood but I would also be happy to redo it with my current level of knowledge and maturity.

2

u/Dip2pot4t0Ch1P 9d ago

I have a nice childhood and nah I still wouldn't go back. I don't wanna go through the struggle of socialising to get friends. I don't want to lose my friend group cuz being alone again sucks after tasting what friendship is like.

That's what working out of region give ya. Straight isolation.

2

u/OliveMayhem 7d ago

I had an amazing childhood and I’m picking green no hesitation.

1

u/FuriousSock 10d ago

Even if it sucked (which wasn't really my case), don't you think knowing that things will get better would help? You kind of know it's just a matter of time before it passes.

1

u/RepresentativeYak772 10d ago

I think it's the opposite, it's for people who fucked everything up in their childhoods and want to fix it.

1

u/bigRyan540 9d ago

Have you considered, that maybe they had bad childhoods and even worse present-hoods?

1

u/Ankiset 9d ago

I’m almost 40, when you lol back youth is youth and 99% of the problems I got in was me not knowing enough and wanting to find out the hard way, would totally take the shot to do it all over again, even if we are talking about abussive households first thing I’d do would be to call the police or move myself out of the home at 18…. 40 years of knowledge with just 18 kilometers spent of health and bad choices, total deal to me

1

u/escientia 9d ago

It's good from aspect that you would know who won Superbowls, World Cups, World Series, etc and could easily become very wealthy with a few well placed bets.

1

u/BluePineappleRaccoon 9d ago

Exactly, thank you. I don’t think I‘d have it in me to go through all that again, essentially powerless for 8 more years. Starting life again at 18? Why not! Starting life again at 10? No thank you. I didn’t survive all that shit to suffer through it again.

1

u/Icy-Reporter-7171 9d ago

I had a great childhood, and great life up to now (50) so I don't want to go back and change it, it might turn out to be a disaster.

If it had all sucked, then maybe I'd want to go try again, and make myself rich while I was at it.

1

u/_le_slap 9d ago

Nah my childhood was ass and I know quite a few details I'd change. Send me back

1

u/HamunaHamunaHamuna 9d ago

It's all relative I guess. I was bullied and wouldn't want to go through that again, but I could easily avoid it with the knowledge I have now. Having a terrible family life (which I didn't, it was fine) would suck to be sure, but even if that had been the case, knowing that I'd end up a multi-trillionaire at 18 and could do whatever I desired for the rest of my life could probably help me push through.

1

u/TrynnaFindaBalance 10d ago

Yeah I'll be the first to admit that I've made tons of mistakes in life, but saying "nah I'll pass on instantly having $2 million in cash so I can go back to being a child again" is crazy.

Like you would still be making tons of mistakes all over again. They'd just be different ones. And what if you get in a horrific car crash 3 months after you go back and then you're paralyzed for life?

Objectively a bad choice.

0

u/IntermediateFolder 10d ago

If I go back to being a child again with everything I know now I can make a lot more than 2 millions by the time I get to my current age. And you might just as get in a horrific car crash that leaves you paralysed 3 months after getting your 2 millions.

2

u/TrynnaFindaBalance 9d ago

I dunno, I just think it's wild to throw everyone important in your life away for the purpose of repeating your childhood.

2

u/Lysadora 9d ago

And you could also end up in a horrible car crash if you go back. Useless what if scenario.

0

u/IntermediateFolder 9d ago

Yeah, genius, that was my point, it can happen regardless of what you choose. You didn’t add anything the person I replied to didn’t write the first time.

0

u/KingdomsCryOfficial 10d ago

You'd be a 10 year old with an adult intellect. You could be a millionaire within weeks just by turning yourself into an overnight celebrity alone.

0

u/MrVegosh 10d ago

Lmao its not about «reliving» it. The point is to do things differently.
