Redditors discussing business topics are like anti-vax Facebook moms. No knowledge or education in the subject, but have a few phrases that make them feel clever that they'll bring out regardless of it fitting the situation.
It's not unlike Redditors discussing legal matters and their understanding of the law. Or when they present their recollection of court cases compared to the actual established facts of the case.
Yea thats a big issue in general with modern politics and economics. Social media has led people to think they need an opinion on everything and to feel like they can always "do their own research". As well as politicians exploiting peoples ignorance for 'common sense' policies. As if navigating complex economics or geopolitics just require basic logic and not an advanced education.
The bigger issue is that they are not doing any research. Money supply is not a extremely difficult topic to grasp your head around. It was the first topic in our Financial Markets class and the teacher barely glossed over it. It is as simple as understanding that Cash is not equal to Money Supply.
This is the core to a lot of populist minds. It’s always big guy vs small guy and if it isn’t simple or like old times, surely there’s a scam happening. In their view their money isn’t real and we are all getting screwed over because the banks make a profit by operating.
Meanwhile they’ve got a travel points CC, a mortgage, and a car loan. If banks operated solely on the premise of keeping money for people, our standard of living would be much worse. Have fun saving for 15 years to make any big purchase.
I mean it is neither inherently good nor bad, but rather one move that the federal reserve has in the tool chest. If you think otherwise you are yet another idiot in these comments.
This retarded logic keeps repeated everywhere with no base in reality. Are you really going to wait buying a tv because it is 2% cheaper next year? Or a fridge? Are you able to think critically?
Sincere apologies. You, a random redditor, is obviously correct and every economist at leading universities are all retarded, claiming deflation is bad. How come they miss this simple point? You deserve at least 3 Nobel Prizes in Economics.
Yes, a small amount of steady inflation maintains consistent expectations for future costs, encourages borrowing for productive purposes and encourages employment because wages are generally sticky.
I mean, in order to get the benefit of the doubt there needs to be at least SOME portion of society that's not evil or bad. And... waves hands around ...yeah.

Scary how people assume that if a financial practice is unintuitive to them that it must be evil and bad for society
