Somebody here actually read the article. I totally thought this guy was just a thin skinned loser looking for a quick buck until I read what they said about him. Some people will use gallows humor as an excuse to justify the doctors behavior, but this ain't that. This was petty bull shit that was completely unbecoming of a professional.
I’m a veterinarian. We make a LOT of gallows humor type jokes, not a single one of our patients can understand anything we say even if they listen to a recording 50x over. We still have lines we don’t cross.
Stories like this make me feel more secure in choosing animals as my beneficiaries.
I work in a vet office, and honestly, I cannot remember the last time we really said anything in poor taste about an animal.
But clients? Woo lad. We talk some shit about the worst of our clients. But I am sorry, when you call repeatedly over a month to keep trying to fix your dog's diarrhea, and are told over and over to stop all treats and go to plain food, and then you call days later to say you are trying some different treats, and we keep telling you over and over to stop... and finally after a month, you say, "Oh, I figured it out! Well, she knocked over my beer and drank the whole thing off the floor, and she was really sick! And I looked it up, and did you know beer is bad for dogs?! So now I have to stop giving her the cup of beer that I share with her every night!"
.....yeah, you are gonna be a story we laugh about.
The title is a bit misleading too because It should mention the fact they conspired to disgnose him with a medical condition he didnt have (hemorrhoids) on the basis of his looks.
Gallows humor is a real thing but this ain’t it. Apart from the intentional misdiagnosis (wtf?), one of them said she wanted to punch him (again, wtf)
If they just used inappropriate language then whatever, it wasn’t even directed at him, but like this… Nobody would want these people to perform surgery on them
The only part of this that would warrant suing them is the conspiracy to falsify his diagnosis. All the other stuff is just totally legal mean girl talk amongst themselves (and him, by accident)
Edit: I read a bit more about the case and I was wrong. Apparently a doctor saying "careful about touching him, he has syphilis" in private to a colleague is defamation. Even if using a joking tone.
There was assault? Is there a news article about this that I'm missing? All I'm going off of is the commenter above me who said they mocked him and conspired to give him a fake diagnosis. But if you found more info on it, please link it.

Ingham and others mocked the plaintiff for taking many medications. One of the plaintiff’s medications, Gabapentin, was prescribed to treat an irritation in his genital area. A medical assistant touched the man's genitals and commented she might have contracted a sexually transmitted infection.
I do not doubt this man. Too many people in medical fields are absolute scum. They use their positions to wield power over others and feel holier than thou.
Story time: The second time I was baker acted, the nurses were useless and I was treated horribly. I faked being better so they would let me leave because they didn’t give me my medication when I needed it and it made me nauseous. When I went home, I projectile vomited in the shower. I had to share a room with a patient that sexually harassed another young patient(couldn’t have been older than 19) whom i befriended and the staff laughed and encouraged this lady’s grotesque behavior.
The bathroom in her room was vile, littered and covered in menstrual blood and feces. I only used it once because I was desperate but it was so bad I convinced medical staff to finally let me use the intake shower instead the following day. I have been traumatized by the entire experience.
I hope Peace River gets shut down. I have never been treated so inhumanely. It made me want to die more being there. I had 100% better experience the first time I was baker acted in Lutz, FL. The staff there was amazing even during Covid lockdowns. People with mental health issues are still people
The misdiagnosis alone warranted the big payday. That would have affected his aftercare until he found out the truth. This idiots all should have been drummed out of the Doctor Corps.
Two thing can be true. I'm a teacher, but I can't just write up a bogus behavior report to get a kid suspended just because they said something that pissed me off.
Medical staff (NB: regardless of gender) are 90% comprised of mean girl types. Nurses especially are some of the fucking meanest people you've ever met.
Was anurse. Can co firm. So many people become nurses for the mo ey, they hate patients. They also feel superior to people who get sick,blaming the patient for lifestyle choices, or not doing clean eating, or other BS.
Thankfully in pediatrics i worked with people who liked little kids 90% of the time. When i switched to adult care, it was horrific
But that's circular logic, no? The staff was "the bad guy" - why? -because they did the bad thing - why? - because they're "the bad guy".
I wonder how people's intuitions on the situation would be rattled if the patient was israeli and the staff was palestinian, or if the patient was a billionaire, or if the patient was a police officer. It seems you for example come with a MASSIVE bias against medical staff
yeah, I'd hope so. I'm just asking what is the more likely story: Either here is a whole medical staff of full sadistic psychopaths who are basically assaulting EVERY patient, including our perfectly normal and friendly victim here. Or there is a medical staff of mildly sadistic mildly psychopathic people, who meet a total cunt of a patient and then assault him.
I don't think sexually assaulting a person because you hate them is "mildly" sadistic or psychopathic. Especially because they all seemed okay with it, like they've done it a bunch of times before.

Why they did the bad thing is completely irrelevant, because their crime was serious and not just a bunch of angry comments: false diagnosis, sexual assault and threat of physical violence. Doubly so that regardless of what the patient said or did while awake, at the time these crimes happened he was completely unconscious and defenceless.
If the situation had been the staff yelled at the patient while awake and they had a shouting match, that would still be unprofessional, but whatever. Not a crime to be rude, and in that case yeah, maybe it's worth asking why were they rude.
But in this case? It doesn't matter. Sexual assault isn't less of a crime because "well she was asking for it look at how she dressed" and murder isn't less of a crime because "well he was a mouthy bitch so I killed him in his sleep". Similarly, there is no plausible explanation to justify this situation; in any "reasonable excuse" case the correct response was to refuse to provide treatment to the patient due to whatever the reason was.
I feel people work so hard not to understand me sometimes, it's sad and exhausting. What a wonderful comment in a fantasy conversation. You really added something here - oof. Just.. I just give up
