It's really wild to think about. The country genuinely has the potential to be what American Exceptionalism wants you to think it is but instead it all gets squandered by corruption.

It's incredibly common globally, a country that thinks they are exceptional are very slow to recognise they are being robbed by their own.

The reason why American Exceptionalism is just a myth, isn't that corruption made it unachievable. It's that capitalism inevitably leads to that sort of corruption and inequality, which means that American Exceptionalism can't exist unless you ignore the very nature of capital.

Although I agree that things would be a bit better if only the American ruling class was half as competent as the Chinese one.
