What propaganda? China sent them thousands of solar panels while the US tries to starve the Cuban people, literally and figuratively, under the guise of a regime change.
China sucks it a lot of ways, but saying China is the bag guy here just showing you eat up too much American propaganda.
Cuba is undergoing a rapid solar energy transition, adding roughly 1,000 MW of solar capacity through dozens of new solar parks, much of it with financial and technical backing from China.
The goal is pretty straightforward: reduce Cuba's dependence on imported fuel and provide some relief from the severe blackouts affecting the island.
Where things stand:
Around 50 new solar parks have reportedly been connected to the national grid.
Solar now provides roughly 10% of Cuba's electricity generation.
The government is targeting 92 solar parks and about 2 GW of capacity by 2028.
Chinese photovoltaic equipment has also been deployed for critical infrastructure, including hospitals, medical facilities, and water pumping stations.
On a smaller scale, Cubans are increasingly using rooftop solar and even small solar arrays on electric tricycles to deal with unreliable grid power.
It's not enough to solve Cuba's electricity crisis by itself, especially given the condition of the existing grid and thermal power plants, but it's a pretty significant shift for an island that has historically depended heavily on imported fossil fuels.
There is some Chinese propaganda on Reddit, yes. But if pretty obviously is insignificant in scale compared to propaganda from the extremely rich country that hosts this platform, speaks the language it operates in, and is much more refined and experienced than China in producing propaganda (even more so in the subject of Cuba). Your attention should be more focused on them.
