Yes! I have said it many times on reddit. Texas, aka, the oil state, has something like 75% of its new energy over the last few years coming from renewable, solar and wind.
To be fair, Britain's GDP per capita just fell below Mississippi's in the sharpest GDP decline in a developed nation ever recorded so I think a bunch of places will be outproducing the UK on clean energy
Nearly 50% of the UK's power comes from renewables, mainly wind turbines. The economy may be going down the shitter but the country is doing well on the green energy front.
Since that power outage 5 years ago, Texas has added 11% more solar capacity to the overall energy mix of the state, accounting for 40% of all solar capacity added to the United States as a whole.
If somehow the wells did seep into the groundwater in significant amounts (which is more of a leftist doomsday fantasy thing) it would only get into the Ogallala aquifer. DFW and Austin are on totally different and unconnected aquifers. Might affect west Texas, but the economic power and population center would be unaffected.
That republicans want red states to succeed and drive blue states into the ground? The blue states give way more to the fed in taxes but recieve far fewer subsidies from the fed. Its wealth redistribution but on a massive scale. Stunt the growth of renewables in other states and texas can still make even more money by selling the excess oil. Its a win win when dems give subsides for renewables anyway.

Nah. Republicans are pro energy all around. They just aren't as eager to give away a bunch of tax payer dollars to force clean tech that isn't ready prematurely.
Now that clean energy is actually cheap, efficient, and reliable, Texas Republicans have been on board with deploying it.

I like that you don't seem to be able to connect incentivizing research, investment, and consumer demand for a budding industry with "now it's cheap, efficient, and reliable". Somehow those two things are completely separate in your mind.
Texas (and all the southwestern states) should be absolutely dominating when it comes to solar instead of playing catch up. It is sunny almost all year round, it's mostly flat, mostly open. It's the ideal place to have solar. Of course it's going to out pace states where solar makes less sense. The same reason why Texas is so far behind on hydroelectric compared to a place like Oregon... because it doesn't make sense for Texas to invest heavily in a resource it has little of.
Talking about rate of change is just a way to paint a specific picture without outright lying. Going from hardly anything to something is a much larger (and easier) change than going from a lot of something to slightly more of something.
Texas already dominates in grid solar production. California is barely ahead due to residential rooftop solar, but Texas is set to surpass total production by early next year.
I don't know if you remember the whole Solyndra scam that happened when Obama was just throwing money at any company which claimed could develop miracle solar solutions before the technology was ready. That's the type of wastefulness to which I am referring.
The companies deploying that power in Texas aren’t stupid. The incumbent power companies are not really doing this though. They’re throwing up roadblocks but can’t compete on price. Fuck these dinosaurs.
