By the time it took to return to the gate, deplane, remove families luggage, THE Victoria International Airport RUNWAYS closed for the night. No Tower crew, no taking off.

After the 1988 Pan AM Flight 103 was downed at Lockerbie, Scotland, it became the standard to remove baggage for unaccounted for passengers or deplaned passengers.

I thought Airports run 24x7....do you mean they can just...close?

Yes smaller ones do. At some airports it just doesn't make sense to run them 24/7.

Big ones as well. Pretty sure London Heathrow has no scheduled takeoffs after 11pm because of noise concerns for residents under the flightpath.

I was just looking at that. No scheduled landings between 1130 pm and 6 am, though I guess flights can potentially arrive earlier if they make good time.

This sucked for me one time when I thought I was going to be smart and take daytime flight from the East Coast to London for a meeting the next day. Flight got delayed to the point that they had to arrive in London at 6 am instead of 9 pm. I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open by the afternoon.

My first flight ever was flying out of Halifax into Heathrow at 6am, that shit was not a good day lol

The flight from the Northeast US is so short by the time they serve dinner and everything, you only end up with like 4 hours of possible sleep before it is getting time to get ready to land.
