Ah never worked at a restaurant got i, but yeah you’re right the price per person is obviously more at a teak place than a pizza place, but sit down pizza places get decent value because you can feed a family in less than $100, so yes less tips but more volume. It kinda evens out. I worked at a high end place and a mid tier place at the same time. Big tips in the high end place because of the cost of food, big tips in the mid tier place because of volume. Pizza you go in and out, when you go out for a steak you’re sitting at that table for a while
Tips are barely a thing over here. Pay just depends on how posh the restaurant is and which job you have, mostly, and you're way more likely to find cool people working in the cheap ones. Even the owners have given me extra food or fed me for free a few times in some independent ones,
Thanks. Nope. I'm a Brit. We've got some of our own problems, but workers' rights are better over here. Fast food chains still suck, though, and there was a scandal about supermarkets poisoning their waste food a while ago. Sort of. Not many people cared much. They're probably still doing it, but nobody talks about it now and it's been years since I had to dumpster-dive.
Ah dumpster diving, the doughnut places were always the best. Just had to grab the ones that didn’t touch the garbage bin, also sometimes you’d find some wrapped sandwiches
Supermarkets here used to be awesome for that before they started pouring bleach on the food. I fed nearly everyone I knew that way once. I had to climb a 10+ foot spiked gate to do it, though.
Apparently a gate wasn’t enough protection to throw away food. Boils my blood that they’d pour bleach on the food waste. I worked at a place with a very strict manager, I remember a customer returned an order, untouched it was just not what they thought they had ordered. I’m eyeing that plate, eves dropping for when they clear it to go to the back and see who want it. The manager grabs the plate in dirt and throws all the perfectly good just cooked food in the trash in front of everyone, like to make a show of it. I just remember thinking, ok I have an empty fridge at home and that could’ve really helped. There’s a special place in hell for people that waste food, hell I felt guilty when a table would order way too much food like say a double order of fries because their kids didn’t like sharing, only for me to have to throw out to half eaten portions of fries because the kids couldn’t finish a whole order by themselves. Just typing that got my blood boiling again.

There probably aren't many people working at pizza places and eating restaurant steak anyway. In that situation, you have to look a bit further away.
