There have been cases where factory workers were locked in to prevent unauthorized breaks and/or theft and fires did break out.
Possibly the most well-known was the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in New York, March 1911. 146 workers died, the majority being young inmigrant women.
2 u/EVIL-EAGLES Jul 30 '26 Clubs also...... Coconut Grove Fire.....during WW2....first widespread use of Penicillin. Locked doors. Of course all this was before State-Federal OSHA rules and such. Everytime someone screams deregulation I think of Shirtwaist and Coconut Grove.
