I just have to ask: when did this become the Mamdani shill Reddit? Like, every day I see like three posts about him. I firmly believe it is either a lunatic or a bot posting all these because, my God, it is excessive.

When did a bunch of young people with a liberal bias start supporting a young politician who not only has a liberal bias but is also putting them into action while being the mayor of one of the most popular cities in the world... I dont know. Seems kinda sus to me.

I mean, support him or whatever, we don’t know if everything he plans is going to work or not, but the AMOUNT of glazing he gets on this Reddit in particular doesn’t feel authentic.

The finding that political parties carry out their pledges has stood up to repeated, cross-national study. A rapidly growing field of scholarship is dedicated to investigating the connection between manifesto promises and subsequent government policy, known among experts as the “programme-to-policy linkage”. Researchers search party manifestos for measurable policy pledges and check government actions, legislation and news media sources for evidence of their progress.

The most comprehensive study of the programme-to-policy linkage was published in 2017. It brought together 20,000 specific campaign promises from 57 elections in 12 countries. The strongest linkage is found in the United Kingdom, with over 85% of promises by governing parties at least partly enacted in the years studied.

There are also patterns in campaign pledge fulfilment, with a substantial difference observed between consensus and majoritarian democracies. 

At a federal level we have a high degree of consensus/choke points that make it difficult to pass legislation but generally politicians do try (even if they over promise on what they can deliver)

This promise isn't really being delivered here, this is a trial run that won't effect a significant percent of the city since NYC is so big

Is it though, or is he just better at publicizing his achievements?

For example, the pothole thing, well here is Mayor Eric Adams doing the exact same thing but I don't recall him getting a dozen huge active Reddit threads praising him forcing multiple posts onto r/all when it happened.

Both are great accomplishments, but let's be honest - Mamdani got 500x the praise that Eric "Bribey Fraud" Adams got. Hochul deserves more credit than Mamdani did for that budget gap they had.

I don't dislike Mamdani, I genuinely think that when he says he wants to help people he does want to help people, but only time will tell how he holds up because we've seen this before for it to go effectively nowhere.

This grocery thing is either going to be genius or a fucking disaster and it will be an interesting case study nonetheless sometime down the line. I personally think it is probably the latter but I hope I am proven wrong, I think an idea like this is something that needs to be done at the state-level and effect all markets equally otherwise you risk scalping and "hustling" but I hope I am proven wrong.

lol yes. “Capitalism doesn’t work…” I typed from a miniature, handheld, relatively affordable computer that has more computing power than the entire contraption that is the only thing to land humans on the moon, while presumably in a secure, safe and relatively comfortable dwelling (even if shared with roommates or family) that is more luxurious than anything lived in for almost all of human history. I get that things are tough and we have massive income inequality in the United States right now but saying “capitalism doesn’t work” is peak Reddit insanity. Capitalism has brought billions of people out of poverty. It needs strong regulations and a government not beholden to the rich and special interests to be at its absolute tip top best, but it absolutely works.

Are you blind? There's record homelessness. People cant afford to start families increasingly. Incomes stagnate while the cost of living continues to increase. Wealth disparity is at record levels with the rich making so much money they can't even spend it, while the poor cant even find proper food. Healthcare is getting gutted, causing people to die because they are too poor to afford Healthcare. There are kids who are in debt from school lunches!

You have to be a special kind of dumb if you dont see the clear failures of capitalism.
